POTSDAM, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's volleyball team dropped the first two games of the weekend against Susquehanna University and Stevens Institute of Technology. The Green and Gold now hold a record of 5-7 on the season.
Game One vs. Susquehanna University: L, 3-0 (23-25, 14-25, 20-25)
The Golden Eagles got off to a competitive start against the River Hawks, with both teams trading shots until a 10-10 tie saw a turn of the table. Brockport claimed a five-point advantage after back-to-back kills by
Laiken Fox and back-to-back service aces by
Emily Orminski brought the score to 15-10. Unfortunately, the Green and Gold were unable to hold onto the lead, with the opposition pushing back and tying the set at 22-22. Brockport remained competitive in the third set, staying close with Susquehanna, but were unable to get over the hump. As a team, the Golden Eagles recorded 33 kills, 32 assists and 49 digs.
Game Two vs. Stevens Institute of Technology: L, 3-0 (23-25, 14-25, 20-25)
The Green and Gold stumbled in their second game of the day, as they dropped three straight sets to the Ducks. The second set was a competitive match for both units, as both teams traded leads, with Brockport claiming the advantage on multiple occasions. Fox led the way in the match with 15 kills as
Lindsey Luce chipped in 11 of her own.
Kerri McHale had 23 assists and
Maddy Taylor contributed 15 digs. As a unit, the Golden Eagles had 37 kills, 37 assists and 51 digs.
The invitational continues tomorrow, Sept. 16 as the Green and Gold battle against Clarkson University at 3 p.m.
