Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Brockport Drops Home Battle To Nazareth, 1-0

BROCKPORT, N.Y.— The College at Brockport women's soccer team hosted Nazareth College for the annual "Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure" game, where they looked to raise money and spread awareness for breast cancer research. Despite a career high 17 saves by goalkeeper Kimberley Lubanski, the Green and Gold fell by a score of 1-0. Brockport moves to a 2-3 record on the season as Nazareth now holds a mark of 3-2 in their campaign.

The first half saw strong goalkeeping by the Golden Eagles as Lubanski made 11 saves to keep the Golden Flyers off the board. Offensively, the Green and Gold recorded nine total shots, six of which were on goal. Lindsey Lovett and Sydnee Smith tried to create offense by tallying two shots a piece, but at the end of the first frame, neither team was able to find the back of the net as the score remained 0-0.

In the first 20 minutes of the second frame, it was much of the same with Lubanski and the Brockport defense keeping the opposition scoreless, until the 64:30 mark when they knocked in the first goal of the match. The Green and Gold picked up the offense and tried to answer, with one of the best opportunities coming off a corner kick by Maddie Siclaire that found Smith in the box that was blocked by the defense. Brockport battled until until the end with Riley Foti firing a shot on goal in the 81st minute and Lovett heading a ball just wide off of a Foti corner kick. Unfortunately, the team couldn't find the back of the net and fell 1-0.

"Full credit to Nazareth, who played really well all game." Said head coach Mike Idland. "I can't be upset with our team because we played a very solid game."

The Golden Eagles hit the road on Saturday, Sept. 15 as they battle against D'Youville College at 4 p.m.
