POTSDAM, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's volleyball team played an intense, hard fought battle against host school, Clarkson University. After going five sets, the Golden Eagles came out on top 3-2 to take home a much-needed win. The Green and Gold move to a 6-7 record on the year, as the Golden Knights fall to 7-4.
After dropping the first set, the Golden Eagles put on their game face and grabbed the second set 25-21. At first it looked like the team was in trouble after an opposition run brought a 9-5 deficit, but after a timeout by head coach
Steve Pike the unit began to chip away with kills by
Myah Frostclapp and
Lindsey Luce. Later in the set the Green and Gold were led by a
Laiken Fox kill and service ace by Frostclapp to tie the score at 19-19. After Clarkson took a 21-19 advantage, Brockport recorded the final six points to tie the match at 1-1.
The Golden Eagles found themselves down again heading into the fourth set, but continued to dig deep. After seeing a deficit of 7-2, a kill by Fox and a trio of oppositional errors helped bring the score to 8-6. Later in the set, a 7-1 Brockport run helped grab a 16-13 lead that they wouldn't relinquish on their way to a 25-23 set four win. In the fifth and final set, the Green and Gold were in control once they took a 4-2 lead on kills by Frostclapp and Fox. They would rally off five straight points to extend the lead to 10-4 before going on to win 15-9.
Fox led the team with 17 kills, while Luce chipped in 12 of her own and Frostclapp finished with 8.
Emily Orminski led the way in assists with 39, while
Maddy Taylor showed her defensive capabilities with 24 digs.
Brockport will kick off State University of New York Athletic Conference pool play on Friday, Sept. 21 when they battle against Plattsburgh State in Cortland, N.Y. at 5 p.m.
