BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Sunday scaries did not exist for The College at Brockport field hockey team this weekend as they barreled through Sage College 4-0, improving their record to 2-3 on the season.
The Brockport offense got off to a hot start on the afternoon, putting themselves on the board in the first minute of the game. Sophomore,
Meaghan Lurz, collected her first goal of the season after taking advantage of a beautiful pass across the net from freshman
Katelynn Mello.
With ten minutes remaining in the first half, junior
Molly Scarpello rushed through traffic into the Gators offensive circle, netting a solo shot on the left side to give the Golden Eagles a comfortable lead.
Both teams remained scoreless well into the second half, however the Green and Gold were clearly putting more pressure on the Sage defense. With 20 minutes left to play, Lurz found strength in freshman
Emily Hall to assist her in her second goal of the season to put the Golden Eagles up 3-0.
The end of the game would very closely mimic the way it started, with freshman
Alyssa Fuccillo taking a breakaway for goal number two of the season, solidifying the win with less than a minute left to play.
The Golden Eagles would finish the evening outshooting the Gators 10-7 while only allowing two shots on goal and three penalty corners.
"I'm proud of the team for coming out with a win today.
Meaghan Lurz stepped up and played a great game for us," said head coach
Krista Archambeau. "Our defensive unit played great as well and stayed strong throughout the full 70 minutes to earn the shutout."
As the team looks to take on their first SUNYAC competitor next weekend, they hope to use the momentum from Sunday's win and carry it into next week's matchups.
Brockport is back in action on the road Wednesday where they will take on Utica College at 5 p.m.
