Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Brockport Falls To Lakers, 4-3

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The College at Brockport field hockey team lost a tough 4-3 matchup to SUNY Oswego on Saturday after a strong comeback performance in the second quarter. The team falls to 2-5 on the season while the Lakers improve to 4-2 overall.

Sophomore Katie Ziemba kickstarted the offense from the start, collecting her fourth goal of the season to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0 five minutes into the game. Midfielder Emily Hall caught the assist after firing the ball in from the top of the circle on a penalty corner. The Brockport offense continued to add pressure to the Laker defense, forcing three more penalty corners thereafter. Oswego would later find a hole in the defense to tie the game at one before the half.

The Golden Eagles fate looked bleak after the Lakers collected back to back goals 12 minutes in the second half, quickly followed by a fourth minutes later. However, that didn't slow down the Brockport offense as junior Molly Scarpello answered back with her third goal of the season to close the gap. Feeding off the momentum of Scarpello's goal, sophomore Meaghan Lurz found Hall at the bottom of the circle to bring the Golden Eagles within one with eight minutes to play. Despite the strong effort by the offense in the second half, the Green and Gold couldn't produce another scoring opportunity before the clock ran out.

Hall, Ziemba, Lurz, and Mello were the driving forces for the Golden Eagles. Hall and Ziemba each added a goal and an assist while Mello and Lurz collectively added two shots on goal and four shots total.

The team is back in action next week for their second SUNYAC matchup of the season against SUNY Geneseo Wednesday at 4 p.m.
