Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Brockport Takes Road Win Against D’Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's volleyball team took the court on Thursday against D'Youville College, taking the win in easy 3-0 fashion. The win moves the Golden Eagles above .500 at 9-8, while the Spartans drop to a 1-14 mark as they close in on the half-way point of the season.

The Green and Gold kicked off the first set in dominating fashion jumping out to a 7-0 lead off of kills by Laiken Fox, Elena Grossman and a pair of service aces by Emily Orminski. The team was never threatened as they countered every point by the opposition with a couple of their own, comfortably staying ahead on their way to a 25-13 win.

The second frame saw a much tighter start with both units exchanging ties and leads. Brockport turned it around after falling behind 7-4, capitalizing on a trio of D'Youville errors to tie it up, before a Kerri McHale kill gave them the 8-7 advantage. After the Spartans nailed the equalizer, the Golden Eagles used a 4-0 run to reclaim the lead. Myah Frostclapp kicked off the spree with a kill, while Kristen Lansburg contributed two service aces to give the team momentum. The opposition pushed back once again, but a 10-5 run helped take the Green and Gold to a 25-18 set two victory.

The third set proved to be a mighty test for Brockport as four consecutive errors put them in a 5-0 hole to start. However, as they have done all season, they proved to be resilient and used two kills by Lauren Hess and one by Alexi Hamilton to form a 6-1 run that tied it up at 8-8. The two teams then exchanged runs until an Orminski service ace gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the set at 14-13. The Green and Gold seemed to have it going when they had a 18-15 advantage and again at 20-17, but the Spartans continued to march and tied the set multiple times going down the stretch. In the end, Lindsey Luce played closer as she recorded a kill and a block on back-to-back points to give Brockport a 27-25 set three win.

Fox once again led the unit in kills with eight, while Luce chipped in seven and both Hamilton and Hess knocked down five. Orminski dished out the most assists as her final tally showed 24. Maddy Taylor contributed defensively with 12 digs, along with Abbey Manning with recorded nine digs.

The Golden Eagles take the weekend off as they prepare for round two of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Oct. 5 when they take on SUNY Geneseo at 5 p.m.
