Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Brockport crushes Wells College 9-0

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – An explosive performance by the College at Brockport field hockey team on Saturday afternoon, as they trumped Wells College 9-0. The Green and Gold improve to 3-6 on the season while the Express fall to 1-8.

The Golden Eagles offense was the definition of a collective effort, with all nine goals scored by different players. The team found their rhythm right off the bat less than ten minutes into the game as sophomore Meaghan Lurz picked up a rebounded shot by Hannah Martens for the first goal of the day and her third on the season.

Brockport continued to dominate the field, forcing 10 penalty corners and 25 shots on goal in the first half while also shutting out the Wells offense. This momentum only continued through the remainder of the half, as Brockport put four more points on the board with goals from Alyssa Fuccillo, Katelynn Mello, Christina Conkling and Katie Ziemba.

The game remained lopsided in the second as the Golden Eagles persistently found ways to put the ball in the net. A minute in, junior Molly Scarpello added to the breakaway, sneaking the ball past the Wells goaltender for her third goal of the season. Freshman Kayli Brown kept the ball rolling two minutes later after a beautiful pass across the circle from Emily Hall, putting the Golden Eagles up 7-0 with lots of time left to play.

Before the end of the second half, Brockport remained hungry for more, collecting two more goals from freshman Lydia Aroune and Kassandra Burr, both their first goals of the season. It was a rather light day for the Golden Eagle defense, as they only faced two shots and four penalty corners through the full 70 minutes.

The team is back on the road this Wednesday against Elmira College at 4 p.m.
