BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The College at Brockport women's soccer team defeated Buffalo State Saturday afternoon, by a score of 2-1. With the win, Brockport moves to a 5-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in SUNYAC play, while the Bengals fall to 3-6-2 on the year and 2-2 in league play.
The Golden Eagles looked to bounce back on senior night after a tough loss just one day earlier. The first half saw two evenly matched teams duking it out for much-needed SUNYAC points. Brockport's
Kimberly Lubanski was tested early by the Bengals offense but stood tall. Emotions would run high at the 36th minute-mark when two yellow cards were issued to two Buffalo State players, presenting a penalty kick to
Myriah Saar, who beat the Bengals goalkeeper and gave the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead. The Bengals would answer back just two minutes later on a corner kick that found a Buffalo State player in the box, tying the score at one goal apiece.
Â
The second half saw more of the same from the two opponents, with Brockport outshooting the Bengals 7-6. The Golden Eagles poured on the offensive pressure but the Bengal defense continued to have the answers. With one minute to go in the half, Brockport's
Lindsey Lovett took a shot that had a chance but was turned away by the Bengals goalkeeper. The two teams would need extra time to decide a winner.
Â
It would take two overtime periods before a winner was crowned in this SUNYAC matchup-- at the 106
th minute
Krista Statt, found senior Maddie Siclair, who slipped it between the opposition's goalkeeper and the post, capping senior day with a win for the Green and Gold.
Â
The Green and Gold are back in action Tuesday Oct. 2 when they host to Misericordia University for a 4 p.m.
