HOUGHTON, N.Y.- The College at Brockport women's soccer team lost an overtime nail-biter Saturday afternoon to Houghton College, by a score of 2-1. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-2 on the season while the Highlanders improve to 2-0.
 
Brockport came out hungry in the first half, throwing the ball on net early and often. The Green and Gold put five shots on cage within the first 20 minutes, Maddie Siclaire accounted for three of them, rifling one of the crossbar in the 20^th minute. The Houghton net-minder played tough, keeping Brockport's high-power offense at bay for the first 45.
 
The second half started with a few early shots, one from Lindsey Lovett, which was blocked by a defender, and then another from Riley Foti, which fell wide. Brockport was challenged in their defensive end but goalkeeper, Kimberly Lubanski stood strong, making a big save at 64:30 in the second half. The game was back and forth until the 86^th minute when Houghton found an opportunity, beating Lunbanski and putting the Highlanders up 1-0. The Golden Eagles would not lie down in this one, two minutes later Lindsey Lovett found the back of the net, tying the score at one goal a piece. These two teams would need extra time to decide the outcome of this one.
 
The start of the overtime showed both team's hunger to find a win, back and forth play would eventually boil over at the 94^th minute, when a Houghton forward capitalized on an offensive chance to win the game for the Highlanders.
 
"We played really well today and it was a very positive response to our previous game in just about every category," said head coach Mike Idland "If we sharpen things up in the final third of the field, we'll be in great shape."
 
The women's soccer team will be back in action on Sept. 12 at home for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness game against the Nazareth Golden Flyers.
