Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Brockport splits on final day of Golden Eagle Invitational

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's volleyball team wrapped up the Golden Eagle Invitational with a 3-0 win over Cazenovia College and 3-0 loss to Baldwin Wallace University. With the two outcomes, The Green and Gold now hold a 4-5 record on the season.

Game One vs. Cazenovia College: W, (25-7, 25-14, 25-22)

The Golden Eagles got off to a scorching start as they rattled off 12 unanswered points to grab a 14-1 lead. During that stretch, Emily Orminski recorded three service aces, Lindsey Luce and Elena Grossman had kills and the team took advantage of multiple opposition errors. Another run of seven straight points helped push the lead to 22-3 thanks to two kills by Luce and service ace by Laiken Fox. Brockport took set one by a score of 25-7.

The Wildcats held a short-lived, 2-1 lead to start the second set before another 7-0 run led the Green and Gold to an advantage. A kill by Fox tied it up at 2-2 and then four service aces in five serves by Lauren Hess gave Brockport control that they wouldn't relinquish on their way to a 25-14 set two victory. The third set saw Cazenovia hold a lead until a kill by Kerri McHale tied the game at 12-12. From there, both units took their turn holding an advantage, but by rallying off four straight points, The Golden Eagles were able to take set three 25-22 and the match 3-0.

Game Two vs. Baldwin Wallace: L, (9-25, 17-25, 22-25)

Brockport struggled in the opening two sets of their last match of the weekend combining for only 26 points as they fell into a 0-2 hole. Despite losing the third set, the Green and Gold did not go down easily. They battled back from an early 3-0 deficit, using kills by Fox and multiple opponent errors to cut the deficit to 7-6. The Green and Gold sparked for five straight points on kills by Fox and Alexi Hamilton and a block by Myah Frostclapp to give them a 12-9 advantage, their first lead of the match. They took that advantage to a 15-13 lead before an opposition run flipped the tide to an 18-15 deficit. However, after two well-timed time outs by head coach Steve Pike, the Golden Eagles rallied to tie the score up at 21-21. Unfortunately, Brockport couldn't continue the momentum and fell 25-22 in the third set.

The Green and Gold hit the road on Tuesday, Sept. 11 when they travel to Alfred University for a 7 p.m. matchup.
