Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late game effort by the Golden Eagles secures an 81-76 win over the Bengals

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team completed the sweep against Buffalo State Tuesday night with an 81-76 win over the Bengals.

The Golden Eagles and the Bengals battled through the first half, remaining almost evenly matched in field goal, three-point, and free throw percentages.

Allison Chiera opened up the night for Brockport, sinking a three from the top with an assist from the inside by Emily Nestler. Nestler would continue the effort, adding a basket of her own shortly after for a successful and-one situation. Julianna Taylor and Kylee Rosbrook would each put up four as well with strong takes in the paint. Both teams held each other to minimal points, the Bengals only leading by two after the first.

The Golden Eagles and Bengals continued to compete for the lead, both finding success at the bottom of the net. Rosbrook kept the Green and Gold competitive to start the second, posting back to back buckets both in the paint and from three. Brockport remained hot from the outside, sinking three more from the circle, one from Chiera and two from Bailey Pratt. The two would put up 11 of the teams 18 points in the second. Despite the success from the perimeter, the Golden Eagles allowed the Bengals to secure the largest lead thus far, trailing 41-34 with two to play.

Brockport fought to take back the lead in the third with Nestler opening it up after the half. The senior netted the first four points back with her ability to execute under the basket. Taylor and Pratt continued the Golden Eagles three-point party each adding another to the board, closing the gap to one. Chelsea Henry would add one of her own, in addition to a set of successful free throws, allowing the Green and Gold to move within five before the end of the third.

A smart offensive movement and strong defensive effort were essential for the Golden Eagles in the fourth, much of which allowed them to secure the win. The matchup remained a four-point game for most of the fourth period, with timely layups by Pratt and Nestler sealing the deal. The Golden Eagles had five players put up double-digit points for their second highest scoring game of the season. Nestler added another double-double to her senior season, netting 14 points and securing 10 rebounds. However, Pratt was the bread winner for the Green and Gold, leading the team with 18 points and three assists. Rosbrook, Taylor and Chiera each put up 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.

With their win over the Bengals, the Golden Eagles improve to an even 4-4 in conference play, with a pair of conference matchups ahead on the weekend.

Brockport will take the road Friday where they are set to take on Plattsburgh at 5:30 p.m.
