Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brockport Drops SUNYAC Battle Against Potsdam, 78-71

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's basketball team dropped their third straight game on Saturday 78-71 against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent, SUNY Potsdam. The Golden Eagles now hold a 10-7 overall mark and 6-4 in conference play, while the Bears now sit at 11-7 on the season and 7-4 in SUNYAC competition.

The opening seven minutes of play brought on a lot of lead changes and ties. Antonio Alvarez gave the team their first lead after hitting a three pointer to bring the score to 5-4. Davonte Jones and Jahidi Wallace used free throws to either gain an advantage or even up the score. A few minutes later, Justin Summers converted a three-point play to even things up at 12-12 at the 13:12 mark. The Bears proceeded to go on a run that gave them an eight-point lead, but the Green and Gold never let the game get out of hand. Buckets by Devante Hagins, Danny Ashley and Alavrez helped cut the deficit to within three points multiple times but at the half, the Golden Eagles were down 36-28.

The Green and Gold overcame an early double digit deficit by making 4-of-6 shots from the field and four straight free-throws to even up the game at 41 a piece. A Josh Nelson three-pointer gave the team a 46-43 lead at the 13:48 mark. The two SUNYAC foes traded buckets and leads for the next 12 minutes until the Bears grabbed a lead that Brockport could not overcome. The Golden Eagles made it interesting with nine seconds left when Brandon Kennedy-Gay hit a three to cut the deficit to three, but Brockport could not complete the comeback and dropped the game 78-71.

The Green and Gold had four players score double-digits with Summers leading the way with 20 points. Ashley contributed 12 points, while running the offense with six assists and performing well defensively by grabbing five steals. Nelson and Alvarez both scored 10 points.

Brockport returns home to face off against SUNY Fredonia on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. for another SUNYAC battle.
