Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brockport’s Strong Fourth Quarter Secures 72-66 Win

POTSDAM, N.Y.- The College at Brockport women's basketball team won a tightly contested game against the Potsdam Bears in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup. The Golden Eagles lost to Potsdam earlier this season 67-81, but they were able to get their revenge on Saturday, winning by a final score of 72-66 on Potsdam's home court.

Brockport's record improves to 7-10 overall and 5-5 in SUNYAC play. The Bears total record now stands at 6-11 and 3-8 in conference games.

The first half of play started with multiple lead changes, and each team holding a six-point advantage on different occasions. Julianna Taylor started off hot, scoring six straight points for the Green and Gold to take an 8-4 lead. The game stayed tight as it progressed into the second quarter. Potsdam tried running away with the lead, but Bailey Pratt made a momentum-stopping three point shot to keep the Golden Eagles in the game with 4:31 to play in the second frame. The half ended after a Zaria McCullough triple gave Brockport a 36-34 advantage at the buzzard. Emily Nestler grabbed an impressive nine rebounds to go along with eight points in her first 14 minutes of play.

In the third quarter neither squad was able to pull away as the game remained competitive. The Bears took their largest lead of the game at the 2:20 mark, going up by seven, but the Green and Gold went on a 5-0 run to quickly make the deficit vanish. Into the final quarter of play Brockport finally started to edge out the Bears. Strong defensive stops by Nestler, Pratt and Chelsea Henry help them capture a lead that they held for the final six minutes of the basketball game. In total, the Golden Eagles outscored Potsdam, 25-17 in the fourth quarter.

Nestler (18) and McCullough (16) were the two top scorers for the Green and Gold as they combined for 34 points. Nestler also had 12 boards to go along with her impressive scoring numbers. Allison Chiera had three steals and 11 points to help give the team the victory.

Brockport's next game is home on Tuesday, Jan. 29 against SUNY Fredonia on, a SUNYAC matchup that is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
