Brockport See Mixed Results In WPI Quad Meet

WORCHESTER M.A.—The College at Brockport wrestling team traveled to Worchester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for a quad meet that included the University of Southern Maine, Johnson and Wales University and the host WPI. 
 
The Golden Eagles walked away 1-2 on the day, dropping the first match against Sothern Maine 21-9, losing to Johnson and Wales 43-7, but ended the day defeating WPI 27-14.
 
Loss: Brockport 9 – Southern Maine 21
 
The Green and Gold earned three victories in their first battle of the day. Ryan Snow represented the 149-weight class and earned a 5-1 decision, which tied the score at 3-3 after two bouts. A few battles later, Jackson Bell walked away with a 5-0 decision in the 165-weight class to once again even up the score at 6-6. The next Brockport victory came In the 197-weight class, with Joe Yanis impressing with a 8-1 decision, but it was not enough as the team still fell, 21-9. 
 
Loss: Brockport 7 – Johnson and Wales 43
 
The Golden Eagles came away with just two wins in their second set of battles on the day. The first game in the 165-weight class bout, with Matthew Kline defeating his opponent in the form of a 7-5 decision. Eli Sims was dominant in the final match against Johnson and Wales, taking a 17-5 major decision as he represented the 133-weight class. 
 
Win: Brockport 21 – WPI 14
 
Brockport competed well in their matchup against the host team, winning six of the ten bouts. Zach Barker kicked it off with a win by fall in just 1:18 as he represented the 141-weight class. Kevin Marcano walked away with a win due to a forfeit at the 149-weight class and it quickly put the team up 12-0. Bell grabbed his second win of the day in the 165-weight class, this one coming in the form of a 10-2 major decision. In addition, Yanis also grabbed his second victory of the day at the 197-weight class, using a 4-1 decision to overcome his opponent. Matt Caccamise and Donald McCoy, wrapped up the day with back-to-back win in the 125 and 133-weight class respectively. Caccamise started with a 3-1 decision and it was followed by a pin fall by McCoy in 3:31.
 
The Golden Eagles next head to Jamestown Community College for an open tournament on Sunday, Jan. 27 with wrestling set to begin at 9 a.m.
