Lauer Nets Two Goals in Golden Eagles 5-2 Win Over Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team picked up their first conference win of the season Friday night against Morrisville State 5-2. The teams overall record improves to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in league play.

The Golden Eagles offense came out swinging from the start, putting up 11 shots in the first quarter. Despite a strong effort, the Mustangs offense held strong, holding both teams scoreless through the first 15. The Green and Gold opened things up in the second quarter, with Renee Lauer leading the pack. The freshman took advantage of a breakaway opportunity, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. After a response from the Mustangs, Lauer took things into her own hands once again, netting goal number two of the day on a rebounded opportunity. In the first half alone, the Golden Eagles posted 19 total shots and five penalty corners, setting them up for success in the second half.

A short 53 seconds into the second half, Meaghan Lurz notched her eighth goal of the season on an unassisted chip in from the right side. A minute later, fellow forward Katie Ziemba continued the trend, adding goal number four of the night off a pass from Lurz. Katelynn Mello rounded out the scoring for the Golden Eagles moments later with a chip from the center of the circle through the Mustangs defense. In the third quarter alone, the Green and Gold recorded three of their five goals on the night, 12 additional shots and five penalty corners.

Goalie Cara Fox picked up her fifth win of the season, recording three saves against the Mustangs.

The Golden Eagles are back in action next Wednesday at St. John Fisher College for a 7 p.m. matchup.
