Field Hockey To Face Oswego In First of Three Straight Conference Matchups

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team is nearing the end of their regular season, with only three conference matchups left. The Golden Eagles are set to face Oswego State this weekend in their final home game on the year and then head on the road against Oneonta and Geneseo to close out their regular season.

Fox Posts Career High: The Golden Eagles are coming off a tough 5-0 loss against their neighbors from St. John Fisher College. The Cardinals offense was dominant through all four quarters, netting two goals in the first half and three in the final 15 minutes of the game. Renee Lauer and Alyssa Fuccillo tried to kick start the Golden Eagles offense however were unable to produce a score against the Cardinals defense. Goalie Cara Fox notched a career high 17 saves in the cage for the Golden Eagles against a dominant Cardinals offense.

Lakers Up Next: With only three conference games left and a chance to make the conference tournament in sight, this weekend's contest against the Lakers from Oswego State is crucial. Both teams sit in a very similar position as they approach the ends of their season with the Lakers sitting just below the Golden Eagles at 3-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Lakers are coming off of a tough loss against Nazareth College, where they lost a 3-2 decision in overtime.

Last Time They Met: When these two met last, the Lakers took a close 4-3 win over the Golden Eagles, giving them their first SUNYAC win of the 2018 season. Both teams were pretty evenly matched throughout, posting eight shots on goal a piece with the Golden Eagles forcing six more penalty corners than the Lakers. Katie Ziemba and Emily Hall provided the offensive strength the Golden Eagles needed to stay competitive, each recording a goal and an assist. The Lakers lost a key member of their front line last season, as senior Katie Reynolds notched four consecutive goals for the Lakers, putting her at 10 total, only six games into the season.

What To Expect: The Lakers are currently averaging 2.42 goals per game and 12.6 shots per game for a total .709 shot on goal percentage. Freshman Annie O'Neill is leading the Lakers offensively with six goals, two of which were game winners, and an assist for a total 13 points.
