Back to Work as Brockport Hosts Utica Saturday for Empire 8 Showdown

The College at Brockport football team returns home following its bye week on Saturday as the Golden Eagles look to post their sixth straight win when they host Utica College in Empire 8 Conference action on the turf at Bob Boozer Field.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.

Ticket Information: Tickets for Saturday's contest are $5 for the general public and $3 for senior citizens/high school students/children. Brockport students, faculty and staff are free with ID. Tickets are available online through Brockport ticket sales, and at the gate. $5 tickets can be purchased online HERE. There is no will call at the event. Please have either your e-ticket printed out or available to scan on your cell phone.
 
Follow The Action: All five of Brockport's home games will be broadcast live by Roc Sports Network (RSN). ROCSportsNetwork.com is Rochester's only local network showcasing Rochester and Western New York sports through podcasts, television shows and game broadcasts both online and on television. Saturday's game will be streamed live on gobrockport.com/watch.  Live audio for all games will be provided by 89.1 The Point, Brockport's student radio station. Best in the Nation: Brockport's rushing defense leads all levels of college football, allowing an average of just 24.3 yards rushing per game. The Golden Eagle defense has held its opponents to negative rushing yards in two consecutive games.  Over the course of the last three games Brockport has posted -65 yards rushing allowed.

Protect the Nest: Brockport has won 16 consecutive regular season home games and they have not lost in front of the home crowd at Boozer field during a regular season game since Sept. 24, 2016.  Including post season play, Brockport has won 19 of its last 20 home games. The Golden Eagles are 3-0 at home this season, outscoring their opponents by a score of 107-6.
 
Five in a Row: Brockport (5-1, 2-0 Empire 8) has now rattled off five straight victories following its week one loss on the road at Hobart. Over the course of the five victories, the Golden Eagles have posted three shut outs and allowed just 28 total points.  Brockport has outscored its opponents 179-28 over the course of the last five games and the Golden Eagles are averaging 35.8 points per game during the win streak. 
 
Week 6 Recap: The College at Brockport football team jumped out to a 31-0 lead before halftime and held visiting Hartwick to -67 rushing yards on the day to earn its second straight Empire 8 Conference shut out victory, 38-0, two Saturday's ago at Bob Boozer Field. Jala Coad led the ground game with three first half touchdowns, while Justin Morrison added 77 yards rushing and one TD on 10 carries.
 
Tough to Score On: Coach Fox's defense is once again among the national leaders in several defensive categories -- including the most important of categories – points against. The Golden Eagles ranks first in the Empire 8 and fifth nationally allowing an average of just 10.2 points per contest.  Brockport has three shut outs this year and they have allowed just six points in their last three outings combined.  The Golden Eagles also rank second nationally in total defense, allowing just 184.5 total yards of offense per game.
 
Empire 8 Dominance: Brockport was now won 18 straight Empire 8 Conference contests dating back to Oct. 29, 2016. Over the course of the last four seasons the Golden Eagles are 22-2 in conference games, including an unblemished 7-0 record in each of the last two seasons.
 
Series History: Brockport is 5-2 in seven meetings all-time against Utica. Brockport has won three straight against the Pioneers. The Golden Eagles are 3-2 against the Pioneers since joining the Empire 8 in 2014. The Golden Eagles have outscored the Pioneers 85-48 over the course of the last three meetings. The last time these two teams met at Bob Boozer Field was in 2017 and the Golden Eagles won 28-14. 
 
All-American Candidate: Preseason All-American Alex West currently ranks second in the Empire 8 with 5.5 total sacks. He also leads the Empire 8 and ranks sixth nationally with an average of 2.2 tackles for a loss per contest.  West leads the team with 32 total tackles and he has 13.0 tackles for a loss of 40 yards on the season.
 
All-Time Receptions Leader: Senior wide receiver Joseph Ortiz caught four balls against Hartwick and now holds sole possession of the College's all-time receptions record with 224. He has a team-best 19 catches this season for 233 total yards.
 
Get Loud it's Third Down: The Brockport defense leads all of NCAA Div. III football in third down conversion percentage.  Brockport is holding opponents to a .180 success rate in third down situations. On third down, the Golden Eagles have allowed just 16 first downs out of 89 attempts against.
 
Receiving Votes: Brockport is receiving votes for the seventh straight week in the latest d3football.com national poll (32 votes in week seven). The Golden Eagles rose to as high as No. 3 in the national polls headed into the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships last season. Brockport has been a fixture in the top 25 each week dating back to week 1 of 2017. The top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.
 
Head Coach Jason Mangone: Brockport seventh year Head Coach Jason Mangone has been named the AFCA Region I Coach of the Year in each of the last two seasons and he recently picked up his 54th career victory as the Golden Eagles defeated Hartwick College at home in week 6. Mangone has an impressive 54-20 overall record over the course of six-plus seasons at the helm. Mangone and his staff have earned two straight Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year honors after compiling a 24-2 overall record in that span.  In 2017 he was named the AFCA National Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to the semifinals of the NCAA Div. III Championships.

On the Ground and Through the Air: Freshman quarterback Freddy June ranks sixth in the league with an average of 63.4 rushing yards per contest.  He is currently averaging 6.7 yards per carry, which ranks third in the, E8, and he has four touchdowns on the ground. He has also completed 36 passes for 641 yards and five TDs through the air.  He ranks fifth in the league with an average of 191.6 total yards per game.

Lockdown Corner: Freshman defensive back Raylens Boutin ranks fourth in all of Division III football with an average of 2.2 passes defended per game.  He has 10 total pass breakups and three interceptions, two of which were returned for a touchdown. He also ranks second on the team with 25 tackles this season.
 
Rushing Game on Point: Brockport's rushing attack ranks second in the conference with an average of 239.0 rushing yards per game.  The Golden Eagles have 1,434 yards rushing on 288 carries and they are tied for the lead in the conference with 17 touchdowns on the ground.

Spreading the Wealth: Brockport's Freddy JuneJala Coad and Justin Morrison all rank in the top eight in the conference in rushing yards per game.  June leads the way and ranks sixth with an average of 63.4, while Coad ranks seventh (59.0) and Morrison ranks eighth (56.5).

Finding the End Zone: Sophomore running back Jala Coad has found the end zone often this season and currently leads the conference with an average of 9.0 points scored per game.  He has scored at least one touchdown in five of six games this season. He caught a receiving touchdown in the season opener, and he has added eight rushing TDs over the course of the last four games.
 
Going Deep: Senior wide receiver DaQuan Hubbard leads the league and ranks fourth nationally with an average of 27.82 yards per reception.  He has 11 catches this season and averages 61.20 yards receiving per game. He also has one touchdown.

It's a Pick Party: The Golden Eagles have seven different players who have posted at least one interception so far this season. Boutin leads the way with three INT's, while Kenny Hernandez ranks second with two picks.  Alaan Montgomery, Ben Marshall, Andrew Covais, Jason Karteron and Derrick Cipriani each have one interception for the Golden Eagles.

Around the Empire 8: Brockport and Cortland are the only two teams left standing in the Empire 8 without a conference loss this season. Alfred, Fisher, Utica and Morrisville each have one conference win, while Hartwick sits in last place with an 0-2 conference ledger.  Cortland is 6-0 overall, while Brockport is 5-1.  Alfred is 4-2 and St. John Fisher is 4-3.

Meet Utica: Utica is led by Head Coach Blaise Faggiano, in his 10th season at the helm of the Pioneer football program. He has a 50-58 overall record at Utica. The Pioneers are 3-3, and 1-2 in the Empire 8, where they currently are tied for fourth with St. John Fisher and Morrisville State. Saturday will be the first of a three game road trip for the Pioneers. The Pioneers had the third most offensive yards in a game by any Empire 8 program this season with their 555 yard day against Morrisville. Utica and Brockport have the top three single game offensive performances in the conference this year with the Golden Eagles holding the top two spots. After the Pioneers' explosive offensive performance on Saturday, the team rose from fifth to third in scoring offense in the Empire 8 conference at 32.7 points per game. They are averaging 388 yards of total offense per game to rank fifth. Jamarious Morgan has put together an impressive start to his career in blue and orange. The Pioneers' leading rusher has already been over the 100 yard mark in three different games this season, including his career high 162 yard day against Morrisville State. Through his first sixteen games played, sophomore QB Logan Wilcox has thrown for 4,166 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Next Week: Following Saturday's home game against Utica, Brockport will travel to Empire 8 leading and nationally-ranked No. 19 Cortland. The contest at Cortland on Nov. 2nd is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
