Volleyball To Travel For Final SUNYAC Weekend

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport volleyball team approaches their last weekend of conference play, scheduled to go head to head with Oswego and Cortland on Friday and Saturday.
 
Where Are They Now: The Golden Eagles 12-10 overall record and 5-2 record in conference play has secured them a spot in the post season however, this weekend will determine the seeding heading into the tournament. The top four teams in the conference (Geneseo, Cortland, Brockport and Oswego) all meet this weekend to wrap up the regular season and will solidify who gets a bye in the first round, who will host and who is going to travel.
 
Coming Off A Sweep: Last week saw much success for the Green and Gold as they swept the week against three non-conference opponents. The team led off hosting Wells College at home, where they dominated the Express offensively, almost doubling the number of kills they recorded through three sets. They then traveled to Union College where they met the Dutchmen and Arcadia University for a double header. The Golden Eagles defeated the Dutchmen in a similar fashion to the Express, taking a quick three sets while amassing 49 total kills. The Knights proved to be the toughest competition for the Green and Gold as both teams battled through all five sets. After trailing two sets to none, the Golden Eagles were able to gain enough momentum to move past the Knights for a 3-2 win. The team put up 60 total kills and saw four different athletes put up 10 kills or more.
 
Golden Numbers: Through 22 matches, the Golden Eagles have put up strong numbers both collectively and individually. As a team, the Green and Gold currently rank second overall in service aces per set (2.32), third in assists per set (10.25) and blocks per set (1.72) and fourth in total blocks (139), points per set (15.1) and overall hitting percentage (.172).
 
Individually, below are the Golden Eagles who rank within the top 10 of the SUNYAC in each category:
 
Coyle – 7th in kills per set (2.67)
             10th in hitting percentage (.238)
             9th in points per set (3.1)
 
Mastro – 6th in hitting percentage (.275)
               5th in block assists (56)
               5th in total blocks (68)
               5th in blocks per set (0.86)
               9th in points (249.5)
               8th in points per set (3.2)
 
McHale – 8th in assists per set (5.55)
 
Budnick – 3rd in service aces per set (0.59)

2018 Matchup: The Golden Eagles picked up a win against both the Red Dragons and the Lakers in the 2018 season, 3-1 and 3-0 respectively. The Lakers and the Golden Eagles then met again in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament where the Lakers outlasted the Golden Eagles in 3-2 battle to advance to the quarterfinals.
 
What To Expect:
 
Oswego – The Lakers enter Friday's contest with an 18-6 overall record and a 5-2 record in conference play. The team is currently on a six-game win streak after sweeping Buffalo State and Fredonia last weekend. As a whole they are averaging the following:
 
K/S: 11.1, A/S: 10.2, SA/S: 2.7, D/S: 16.7, B/S: 1.7
 
Who to Watch: Melissa Lussier is leading the offensive front for the Lakers, averaging 3.25 points per set for a total 250 points. The junior is also leading the team in both total kills (186) and kills per set (2.42). In addition, Lussier also currently sits atop the SUNYAC leaderboard in service aces per set (0.60). Shauna O'Flaherty has also been a major asset offensively, just behind Lussier with 167 total kills and 219.5 points. Setter Julia Flohr has been key in producing opportunities for the Lakers, averaging 7.96 assists per set.
 
Cortland – The Red Dragons will meet with Geneseo on Friday before welcoming the Golden Eagles to home court. The team currently holds a 22-7 overall record and they are 6-1 in conference play. Cortland is on a three-game win streak against conference opponents Plattsburgh, Fredonia and Buffalo State. The Red Dragons are currently averaging the following:
 
K/S: 11.2, A/S: 10.0, SA/S: 2.3, D/S: 18.0, B/S: 1.8
 
Who To Watch: Hannah Southcott has been a constant threat for the Red Dragons offensively, averaging 3.36 points per set for 339.5 total and 2.98 kills per set for 301 total. Southcott currently leads the conference in kills and is second overall in points. Nadia Moore has also had a standout year for the Red Dragons, averaging 2.48 kills per set and 2.76 points per set.
