Field Hockey loses 6-3 battle with the YellowJackets

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team gave the highly competitive University of Rochester YellowJackets a run for their money Tuesday night, falling in a hard fought 6-3 matchup. The Golden Eagles record moves to 7-5 overall, with Morrisville ahead on the weekend.

The YellowJackets offense came out quick from the start, holding a hefty 3-0 lead at the half, while producing 13 of their 27 total offensive opportunities. Despite being outshot and at a deficit, the Golden Eagles came back swinging in the second half.

Bailey Lazore was the first to open up the scoring for the Green and Gold, sneaking a goal in the top right corner of the net off of a strong feed in from Renee Lauer. The YellowJackets answered back with two more goals to improve their lead to 4-1 but once again the Golden Eagles weren't going down without a fight. Katelynn Mello provided the Golden Eagles second goal of the game unassisted, on a breakaway matchup with two defenders and the YellowJackets goalie. Exactly three minutes later, Lauer continued the trend with goal number three, closing the gap to 5-3 on an assist from Emily Hall.

Goalie Cara Fox recorded 15 saves on the night while facing 12 YellowJackets penalty corners.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on Friday on the road against conference opponent Morrisville at 6 p.m
