Oswego, NY -- The College at Brockport wrestling team took home a second place finish with a team score of 146.5 on Sunday at the New York State College Tournament hosted by SUNY Oswego.  The Golden Eagles finished just 1.5 points behind first place RIT in the team competition. As a team, Brockport posted 20 pins (56:52 total time), and the Golden Eagles finished the day with 62 individual victories on the mat. 

Matt Caccamise took home first place in the 125 pound weight class and totaled 23.5 team points for the Golden Eagles.  He finished the day with four wins. He topped Gavin Nix by major decision 13-5 in the first round.  He added a pin over Cortland's Benjamin Lloyd (6:20) and then added a tech fall win over Ithaca's Matt Griffin in the semifinal.  Caccamise won the 1^st place match by decision, 5-3, against Ithaca's Logan Ninos. 

Richard Knapp also took home top honors in the 285 pound weight class as he won five straight matches to be crowned the state champ.  He won his first three matches by pin over Oneonta's Sam Berger (Fall 2:13), Ulster's Diego Orellana (Fall 00:53) and RIT's Owen Albanese (Fall 1:32). Knapp topped RIT's Calik Kennedy by decision in the semifinals, 9-3. He went on to win the first place match by decision over Ithaca's Dalton Elias (4-2).

Eli Sims took home second place for Brockport in the 141 pound weight class.  He won his first match via pin over Alfred State's Benjamin Star (Fall 00:30).  He then won by tech fall over NYU's Seth Schilman, 17-1.  In the quarterfinal's he won in a tie breaker -2 over RIT's Shane Murphy (TB-2 9-6).  In the semifinal's he topped NYU's Zach Alexander via pin (Fall 4:24).  Sims lost the 1^st place match against Oneonta's Ahken Chu to take home second place overall.

Brockport's Zach Brown placed third in the 157 weight class and totaled 18.5 team points. Brown competed in six matches on the day and had to climb out of the consolation bracket for a third place finish after falling the in the quarterfinals.  He posted two tech fall wins,  one pin and two decision victories on the day.  Brown defeated RIT's Austin Lamb by a 3-0 decision in the third place match.

Joe Yanis and Devon Shader each posted a third place finish in the 184 pound and 197 pound divisions, respectively. Yanis posted two pins before losing in the semifinals against Ithaca's Chibueze Chukwuezi.  Shader also lost a major decision, 9-1, in the semifinals after winning his first two matches of the day.  Shader finished the day with a 7-4 decision win in the third place match against Merchant Marine's Gavin Bonilla.

Brockport returns to the mat on Dec. 6^th when the Golden Eagles travel to York College for the two-day New Standard Corporation Invitational.
