Box Score GRANVILLE,O.H.- The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team defeated No. 25 Denison University Saturday afternoon, by a score of 16-15. With the win, the Golden Eagles open the season at 1-0, while the Big Red fall to 0-1.
The Green and Gold wasted little time in the first half as Jade Williams scored a little over two minutes into the game with the assist going to Sarah Grapevine. Denison battled back early in the first, scoring five unanswered goals to pull ahead 5-1 with 20 minutes remaining. Brockport narrowed the Big Red lead to three with 15:57 remaining in the half, as Hannah Cullen scored her first of the '19 campaign on a free position shot. Â
Denison was able to fire in two quick goals following the Cullen score, bringing the score to 7-2. Emma Nevers responded for the Green and Gold with nine and a half minutes remaining in the stanza, narrowing the score to 7-3. Moments later, Grapevine found her first of the day, bringing Brockport within three.
The Brockport attackers opened the flood gates towards the end of the half as Heather Conklin scored the Golden Eagles fifth of the contest thirty seconds after the Grapevine goal. Â A minute later, the Big Red pulled away once more scoring their eighth and ninth of the game within a minute of each other. Brockport's Lyndsie Pratt brought the Golden Eagles back within three a minute later, the goal coming on a beautiful pass from freshman Allison Jennings. The Big Red finished the half with a late goal, sending Brockport into the locker room down, 10-6.
The Golden Eagles started the second half similar to the first as Grapevine netted her second of the night seven minutes into the frame. One minute later, Denison scored again, bringing the score to 11-7. Â With 21:29 remaining in the half Conklin was at it again, scoring her second of the game. Denison answered once more, scoring their 12th of the contest with 15:11 remaining in the half. Â
The Golden Eagles showed no let-down as Chloe Kurst scored her first goal of the season a minute and a half later, narrowing the score to 12-9. The Golden Eagles would bring the game within two for the first time since the first half with 11:30 remaining in the game as Victoria Thompson scored her first goal of the season on a high shot beating the oppositions netminder. Â The Big Red found the back of the net once more a minute later, bringing the score to 13-10 with 10 minutes to play. Â
The Green and Gold found an extra gear in the last ten minutes as Conklin buried her third of the contest with 8:47 remaining on a free position shot to bring the Green and Gold within two goals. Moments later Thompson found her second score to bring the Golden Eagles within one. Following the goal, Denison was able to sneak past the Brockport defense once more, adding one more tally to the list and pulling ahead, 14-12.
The Golden Eagles would not go down without a fight, scoring again a minute later as Thompson netted her third of the game, bringing the score to 14-13. Brockport called a timeout with three minutes to go, and just like it was drawn Cullen found a lane and buried her second score, tying the contest at 14 a piece. The Golden Eagles pulled ahead with a minute remaining as Thompson scored her fourth of the day on a individual effort. The Big Red tied the game with 55 seconds remaining sending the two teams into overtime.
Brockport pulled off the upset two and a half minutes into the over time period as Williams netted her second goal on a beautiful pass from Grapevine.

"These ladies were resilient all game," said head coach Stephen Wagner. "I could not be more proud of the effort and the grittiness our team showed."
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on March 2 when they host Nazareth College at 11 a.m. on Bob Boozer Field.
