Golden Eagles Slip Past Kutztown

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team defeated NCAA Division II Kutztown University Tuesday afternoon, by a score of 14-12. With the win, the Golden Eagles remain undefeated and improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Golden Bears fall to 1-2.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – 
 
  • The Green and Gold found themselves in an early hole after back-to-back Kutztown goals, but Brockport posted a three-goal response with scores from Allison Jennings, Heather Conklin and Sara Grapevine.
  • Another set of Golden Bear goals sparked the Golden Eagle offense, as Brockport responded with five unanswered scores.
  • Jennings netted a hat-trick to close the frame, while Hannah Cullen and Victoria Thompson each added scores of their own to take an 8-4 advantage into the break.
  • Conklin made it six unanswered goals for the Green and Gold to start the second half, 9-4.
  • Kutztown responded with two goals, narrowing the score, 9-6.
  • Jade Williams netted her fourth score of the season to give Brockport a four-goal advantage.
  • The Golden Bears picked up another pair of goals around the 20-minute mark to bring the game back within two.
  • Brockport would go on a three-goal run at the 16-minute mark of the half to pull away once more (Grapevine, Cullen, and Chloe Kurst).
  • The Golden Bears picked up four goals to end the half but it wouldn't be enough to complete the comeback.
 
 
 
 KEY STATISTICS – 
  • Allison Jennings (4g's-0a) picked up her first collegiate hat-trick. 
  • Sarah Grapevine (2g's-4a's) tallied six points on the day bringing her to a team leading 12-points on the year.
  • Heather Conklin also picked up a hat-trick on the day, extending her goal scoring streak to three games.
  • Brockport dominated in draw controls, winning the battle 19-9.
 
 
UP NEXT –
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20 when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. where they will take on the Bombers, game-time is set for 4 p.m.
