BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team battled the elements and Nazareth College on Saturday, coming away victorious on both fronts, topping the Golden Flyers 13-7. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-0 on the young season while Nazareth falls to 1-2 in 2019.
HOW IT HAPPENED –
- The contest was evenly matched, with Brockport's early 2-0 lead erased by the Flyers by the 20-minute mark when the score was tied 3-3.
- Three straight Green and Gold goals (Hannah Cullen, Chloe Kurst, and Sara Grapevine) gave Brockport the 6-3 edge with 12 minutes to play.
- A pair of Nazareth goals to close the half gave Brockport a 6-5 halftime edge.
- The Golden Eagles broke the game open in the second frame, outpacing their opponents 7-2 with goals from Victoria Thompson (2), Heather Conklin (2), Kurst (2), and Jade Williams.
- The Green and Gold rode strong defense to halt the Flyers, holding Nazareth to only two second half goals.
KEY STATISTICS –
- Kurst had a strong outing for the Green and Gold, leading all scorers with four goals and two assists, adding two ground balls and one caused turnover.
- Conklin added three goals and six ground balls, leading in the GB category, and added nine draw controls.
- Nikki Nolan stood tall defensively, picking up three caused turnovers, three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
- Morgan Elmer had a solid collegiate debut, picking up the win in all 60 minutes of action in the cage for the Green and Gold. The first year had 16 saves on the day.
- Brockport had the edge in several categories, including shots (40-27), shots on goal (31-23), ground balls (20-14), and draw controls (17-5).
- The Green and Gold forced 16 Nazareth turnovers.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, March 6 when they host Rochester Institute of Technology, with opening draw set for 4 p.m.
