CORTLAND, N.Y. –The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team dropped a tight match to No. 20 SUNY Cortland Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 14-13. With the loss, the Golden Eagles finish the regular season with an overall record of 12-4 and 7-2 in conference, while the Red Dragons move to 11-5 overall and 8-1 in State University of New York Athletic Conference play.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP –
- The Golden Eagles went into today's matchup with second place on the line.
- The winner of the game gets a first-round playoff bye.
- Both teams entered the contest with a SUNYAC record of 7-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED –
- The Golden Eagles stormed out of the gate, tallying three goals in the first 10-minutes of the half.
- Chloe Kurst netted the first Brockport goal, followed by scores from Jade Willams and Victoria Thompson.
- Cortland battled back, scoring back-to-back goals with 18-minutes remaining in the half.
- Thompson banged in her second of the night four minutes later off a feed from Sara Grapevine to extend the lead once more.
- The Red Dragons surged back, scoring three goals to take the lead, 5-4.
- Hannah Cullen tied the game at five apiece, while Williams scored her second of the day to put the Golden Eagles back on top to end the half.
- Cortland evened the score to start the second half but Chloe Kurst responded for the Golden Eagles moments later to regain the lead.
- The Red Dragons knotted the score a minute later but Heather Conklin pushed the Golden Eagles back on top with 25-minutes remaining in the half.
- Cortland tied the game two minutes later.
- Brockport tallied back-to-back scores at the 20-minute mark as Conklin tucked in her second of the day and Julie Carballo pushed the Brockport lead to two-goals.
- The two teams traded scores around the 16-minute mark, Chloe Kurst on the Brockport tally.
- The Red Dragons added two more scores to tie the game at 11 apiece with eight minutes remaining.
- Thompson answered for the Green and Gold once more, scoring her third of the game to give Brockport the one goal advantage.
- Cortland buried two more scores to take the lead with 2:40 remaining on the clock.
- Williams tallied the equalizer for Brockport with a minute remaining.
- Cortland called a timeout.
- The Red Dragons scored the game winner with one second remaining on the clock.
