Brockport Punches Ticket To SUNYAC Semi-Finals

BROCKPORT, N.Y. –The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team opened the 2019 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs with a demanding 17-8 win over the SUNY New Paltz Hawks Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Golden Eagles move on the SUNYAC semi-finals, while the Hawks have been eliminated from the post-season.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP – 
 
  • Brockport moves to an overall record of 13-4 and 8-3 against conference opponents.
  • The Hawks fall to 8-8 overall and 4-6 against conference opponents.
HOW IT HAPPENED – 
 
  • Sara Grapevine got the scoring started for the Green and Gold, tallying the first goal four minutes into the frame, but the Hawks responded moments later to tie the game at one.
  • Brockport pulled ahead once more a minute later, this time off the stick of Victoria Thompson.
  • Two minutes after the Thompson goal the Hawks tied it back up.
  • Brockport went on a 10-goal run to close out the half leading, 12-2.
  • The Golden Eagles first half goals came from Allison Jennings (1), Jade Williams (2), Heather Conklin (4), Chloe Kurst (2), Grapevine (2).
  • Thompson made it 11 unanswered goals to start the second-half.
  • New Paltz picked up back-to-back scores around the 25-minute mark.
  • Brockport's Erin Wegrzyn scored the Golden Eagles 14th of the day with 22:16 remaining in the game.
  • New Paltz added another tally with 13:33 on the game clock.
  • Kurst and Thompson added back-to-back tallies to extend the Brockport lead to 11.
  • The Golden Eagles allowed two goals against to end the game.

KEY STATISTICS – 
  • Heather Conklin led the offense with six points (5g-1a), and broke the Brockport single season scoring record, tabbing her 58th goal of the year.
  • Grapevine (2g-3a) and Kurst (3g-2a) picked up five points each
  • Nikki Nolan won four draw controls
  • Brockport was 16-19 on clearing attempts
  • The Golden Eagles outshot their opponent 27-19
UP NEXT –
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Friday, May 3, when they travel to Geneseo for the SUNYAC Championships. The Green and Gold will face conference rival SUNY Cortland in the SUNYAC semi-final game, first whistle is set for 4 p.m.
