Golden Eagles Headed to SUNYAC Final After Upsetting No. 20 SUNY Cortland

Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. –The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team upset No. 20 SUNY Cortland in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) semi-finals Friday afternoon, winning by a score of 17-12. With the win the Golden Eagles move on to the conference final with an overall record of 14-4, while the Red Dragons are eliminated from the post- season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – 
 
  • Brockport jumped out to an early one-goal lead to start the frame as Chloe Kurst buried the first goal at 28:38
  • Cortland answered moments later as Heather Conklin put the Green and Gold back on top two-minutes later.
  • The Red Dragons evened the score at two with 20-minutes remaining in the half.
  • Heather Conklin banged in her second of the night two-minutes later.
  • Cortland answered with back-to-back scores to take the lead, 4-3.
  • Brockport surged back, scoring five tallies in a row to take a demanding first-half lead.
  • Kurst tied the game at four, followed by a Sara Grapevine goal to take the one goal lead.
  • Conklin extended the Brockport lead to two goals, followed by a Victoria Thompson tally from the stick of Grapevine.
  • Conklin scored her fourth of the half to push the Golden Eagles lead to four goals.
  • Cortland picked up two goals to narrow the Brockport lead to two.
  • Grapevine pushed the Brockport lead to three once more, scoring with 2:44 remaining in the frame on a beautiful feed from Kurst.
  • Brockport allowed a goal against with two-minutes remaining to head into the half-time break ahead 9-7.
  • The Red Dragons stormed into the second half, scoring three goals to regain a one goal lead.
  • Brockport put up a huge defensive stand after the three-goal lapse and was able to tie the game at ten with 17-minutes remaining. The Goal came from Jade Williams.
  • Brockport added two more tallies moments later, as Victoria Thompson put the Green and Gold up by one, followed by Williams second of the game to extend the lead to two goals.
  • Heather Conklin made it five unanswered goals for the Green and Gold as she scored back-to-back tallies to bring the score to14-10.
  • Chloe Kurst found the back of the net with six-minutes remaining to extend the Brockport advantage to five.
  • Cortland was able to find the back of net with a minute later to bring the deficit back to four.
  • Brockport responded two minutes later as Kurst buried the 16th of the game from Grapevine.
  • Cortland tallied their 12th of the game moments after the Kurst tally, but it would not be enough to complete the comeback as Conklin put in her 7th of the night to close out the game.
 
 
KEY STATISTICS – 
  • Heather Conkling led the offense with seven goals on the day
  • Sara Grapevine broke the Brockport single-season assist record as she picked up four assists on the day for a total of 55.
  • Chloe Kurst tabbed her hundreth career point after her six point outing (4g-2a)

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, May 4, when they take on SUNY Geneseo in the SUNYAC Championship game, first whistle is set for 1 p.m.
