Women's Tennis

Full Opening Weekend Ahead for Women's Tennis

Brockport, NY – The Brockport women's tennis team is scheduled to open the 2019 season at home on August 30th against Nazareth. The first match of the year is set to begin at 4 pm that Friday.

Opening Weekend: The Green and Gold will be busy on opening weekend, with three straight match-days to kick off the season. After facing Nazareth at home, the team travels to take on Alfred University on Saturday, August 31st. The Golden Eagles then move on to face-off against Roberts Wesleyan on the road at 1 pm that Sunday, September 1st.

Coach Gonzalez: Head Coach Ed Gonzalez is staying on for year four in his second stint coaching the program. Gonzalez has headed the women's tennis program at Brockport for a total of 22 years in his career, holding a 114-137-1 record at the school.

2018 Recap: Brockport finished with a 2-11 overall record and 0-7 tally in SUNYAC competition last year. With both wins coming at home, the squad will aim to improve on the road this season. The team took down Elmira College, 8-1, at home and snuck out a 5-4 win over Houghton College on Senior Day.

Returners: Three members of last year's roster are back for another year of action wearing the Green and Gold. Heather Phillips returns after a solid freshman outing which included three wins in doubles play and two solo wins. Phoebe Morse is back this year as a junior for the team, also coming off of a year with three double and two solo victories. Elizabeth Bean secured points in three doubles matches and one singles flight last year, and is back in Brockport for her senior season.

New Faces: The Golden Eagles are welcoming eight new members to the squad for the 2019 season. This year's freshman class consists of Andrea Banke, Emily Gross, Caroline Stewart, and Raeah Syed. Riley Warren is the lone representative of the sophomore class out of the new players. The team is also bringing in juniors Linda Coleman-Lawrence, Sarah Mahar, and Anna O'Donnell to fill out the roster.

Schedule Layout: The 2019 schedule has the team traveling for the majority of the season, as there are only four home matches currently set. Included in the away trips for the Green and Gold is an invitation to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Tournament, hosted by William Smith College, on September 21-22. Shortly after the regional competition the team will bunker down and prepare for a key stretch of conference play to fight for seeding in the SUNYAC Championships.

Up Next: Following the opening weekend schedule to Golden Eagles will hit the road once again on September 6th, as they face the St. John Fisher Cardinals. The match will begin at 4 pm.
