Field Hockey Earns Most Lopsided Victory in Program History

Story Links

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport field hockey team caged nine goals in the first half and never looked back on its way to the most lopsided victory in program history as the Golden Eagles defeated visiting Wells College 13-0 in the season opener at home on Friday night.  13 goals are also the most goals scored in a single game in program history (first varsity season was in 1976).

12 different players registered at least one point as Brockport won its fourth straight season opener and improved to 1-0 on the year. Alyssa Fuccillo, Ella Sturm and Katie Ziemba each led the way with three points.  Fuccillo kicked off her sophomore campaign with two goals and one assist, while Sturm and Ziemba each added one goal and two assists.

Junior Meaghan Lurz caged two of the game's first three goals to kick start the Golden Eagle's dominant effort.   Bailey Lazore, Olivia Hayden and Katelynn Mello each posted one goal and one assist, while Anna Nardslico, Renee Lauer, Olivia Douglas and Kayli Brown added one goal apiece.  Taylor Weber also posted her first collegiate assist for the home team.

Lazore, Hayden, Sturm and Nardslico made their debuts count as they each registered their first career collegiate goal in the victory.

Freshman goalie Megan Peterson stopped the lone shot she faced and picked up her first collegiate victory for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport's 27 first half shots led to nine goals. Six of those goals came in the first 15 minutes of action as the Golden Eagles opened up a quick 6-0 first quarter lead to start the season. The home team kept the pressure on in the second half, scoring four goals in the final 30 minutes to secure the 13-0 win.

The home team outshot the visitors 38-1 in the contest and also earned a commanding 9-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Brockport defeated Wells 9-0 last season and has topped the Express by a combined score of 22-0 over the course of their last two meetings.

Wells goalie Nikki Michaud stopped 10 shots in the loss.

Brockport returns to action on Tuesday back at home when they square off against Keuka College for non-conference play at 7 p.m.
