Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport women's tennis team started off the new season with a 7-2 win over the visiting Nazareth Golden Flyers. The Golden Eagles open the year with a 1-0 record for the first time since 2015.
 
In the third singles flight, junior Sarah Mahar took the match point for Brockport after defeating Nazareth's Melissa Towers in the tiebreaker set. Andrea Banke took care of business in fourth singles, sweeping two sets by marks of 6-1 and 6-4.
 
Elizabeth Bean earned another point in singles play for the Golden Eagles, getting the victory in fifth singles 7-5, 6-3. Teammate Phoebe Morse went into the tiebreaker set in sixth singles, securing the match point thanks to a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 result.
 
The Green and Gold also swept all three doubles flights to earn the team its 7-2 win on the day.
 
Heather Phillips and Caroline Stewart got the 8-7 win in the first doubles match. The second heat in doubles was taken, 8-1, by Elizabeth Bean and Linda Coleman-Lawrence. Andrea Banke and Sarah Mahar completed the sweep with a 8-3 victory in the third flight.
 
The Golden Eagles are on the road Saturday for another non-conference matchup with Alfred University. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
