BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team picked up their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon to Hartwick College, 5-0. This is the first game this year that the Golden Eagles offense has been shutout, putting them at 4-1 on the season.
The Hawks offense was dominant from the start, taking control of the Brockport defensive circle for majority of the first quarter. Goalie Megan Peterson struggled at the start of the game however once she found her momentum, the freshman recorded 11 of the teams 14 saves.
Despite not being able to find the back of the net, forward
Katelynn Mello was the driving force for the Golden Eagles. The sophomores continued hustle up and down the field put her in numerous 1 vs. 1 or 1 vs. 2 situations, allowing her to notch five total shots (of the teams 10) and two on goal. The Green and Gold may have been outscored but continued to pressure the Hawks defense, matching them for eight corners a piece.
The Golden Eagles have some quick turnaround as they are back in action tomorrow morning for a 12 p.m. matchup against Cedar Crest College.
