Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Polcaro Wins it for Brockport in Overtime

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport women's soccer team took down St. John Fisher at home Wednesday, thanks to an overtime winner by freshman Franchesca Polcaro. The Golden Eagles won their home opener, 2-1, to secure their first win of the season.

Polcaro's game-winner was her first collegiate goal, assisted by Kiley Longin and Brylie Hapeman in the 100th minute of the match. Courtney Franz netted the team's first score of the game early in the second half, with the help coming from Julia Mascaro.

Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Lupo made her collegiate debut, starting her career 1-0 in net. Lupo came up with several big stops on the way to recording 10 saves.

After a 0-0 end to the first half, Brockport got on the board first with Franz's goal coming in the 50th minute. It wasn't too long before the visiting Cardinals would respond with a goal of their own to tie the score up at 1-1. Both teams took nine shots in an exciting second half, but no further scoring pushed the match to overtime.

With less than a minute remaining in the first overtime period, Kiley Longin crossed the ball in the opposing team's box. Brylie Hapeman got just enough of the ball to lay it off to Franchesca Polcaro who buried the game-winner.

The Golden Eagles improve to 1-2 on the season after the win, while St. John Fisher drops to 1-1. Brockport is now 8-1-2 against Fisher in the last 11 meetings between the two squads. Winning the home opener has become a habit for the program, as tonight's win makes it 10 straight wins in the home opening contest.

The Green and Gold are back at home on Saturday when Houghton College comes to town. The match will kick-off at 2 pm.
