Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport wrestling team is on the road this weekend to compete at the Oswego Tri-Match against Oswego State and Castleton University. The event is set to begin at 12 pm on Saturday. Brockport is also competing on Sunday at the Jamestown Open, hosted by Jamestown Community College.
Recent Highlights: At the ECWC Championships last weekend Brockport had two top three finishers and three other top five finishers.
Elijah Sims placed third in the 141 pound weight class with a 4-1 record on the day.
Matthew Kline took third in the 165 weight division beating teammate
Sam Grey, who took fifth place at 165, along the way. In the 174 pound weight class
Chris Eames had a fifth place finish, while
Justin Jones secured fourth place at 197.
Brockport So Far: As a team the Golden Eagles are currently 3-0 in dual meets this season with wins over Penn State Behrend, Alfred State and Pitt-Bradford. The Golden Eagles rose to as high as No. 23 in the national rankings earlier this season. They boast a second-place finish at the New York State College Tournament in late November and a sixth-place finish at the New Standard Corporation Invitational in early December. Most recently the team finished sixth at the Eastern Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships.
NCAA Rankings: Matt Caccamise remains listed in the top 10 of the national rankings for the 125-weight division. He is seated at sixth in the country and last competed at the New Standard Invitational where he took second place, falling 12-11 in the championship match.
What's Next: After this weekend set of events Brockport will prepare for the WPI Duals hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The team will compete against WPI and the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, February 1
st starting at 11 am.
