Brockport, NY – The #21 SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team is set to open the 2020 season at home on Sunday, as it faces off against #22 Denison University. This big-time clash of a season opener is scheduled to begin at 2pm.
National Polls: The Golden Eagles have earned a spot in the top 25 for two different pre-season national polls coming into the 2020 campaign. The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association national poll, Brockport is listed 21
st in the country. In the Nike/USL Pre-Season National Poll, Brockport was ranked 17
th.
Defending SUNYAC Champs: Last year the Green and Gold defeated Geneseo, 13-4, in the SUNYAC Championship game to win its first ever SUNYAC Title. Coming into the new season, Brockport will be defending its SUNYAC Title for the first time. In the 2020 Women's Lacrosse SUNYAC Preseason Poll, Brockport was voted the top team in the conference.
2019 Recap: Last season was one of the best in school history for women's lacrosse. The team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after winning its first ever SUNYAC Title. With 16 wins on the year, the 2019 team set a program record for wins in a single season. The Golden Eagles finished the year with a record of 16-5 overall and went 7-2 in the conference. Head Coach
Stephen Wagner was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year and helped lead the team to earning six all-conference selections.
Key Returners: Brockport is bringing back several key contributors from last season, including
Heather Conklin,
Chloe Kurst,
Allison Jennings, and
Morgan Elmer. Conklin returns after earning 1
st-Team All-Conference last season when she broke the school-record with 69 goals on the year and totaled 84 points. Kurst was right behind her with 78 points on the season, coming from 43 goals and 35 assists. Jennings was the 2019 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year last season and tallied 42 goals as a freshman. In net, Elmer returns after setting the program record with 15 wins as the goalie last season and made 146 saves for the team.
New Faces: There are plenty of newcomers to the squad this season, as Brockport welcomes two new sophomores and six freshmen.
Emily Caramore joins the team as a sophomore attack, while classmate
Emma Smith joins the defense. The 2020 freshman class includes

Scouting Denison: Denison University comes into the 2020 season ranked #22 in the nation after going 16-5 overall and 8-0 in the NCAC last year. The Big Red won the NCAC conference championship last season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated by #1 Gettysburg. Brockport took on Denison in last year's season opener as well, defeating the Big Red, 16-15, in a tight matchup. Denison will face-off against #24 Geneseo on Saturday before coming to Brockport for Sunday's clash.
Looking Ahead: The Golden Eagles are back in action on Saturday, March 7
th for another tough home contest. They play host to #19 Ithaca College for an 11am start time.
