ITHACA, NY – The nationally-ranked No. 23 Brockport wrestling team placed third in the team competition and claimed three individual regional titles Sunday at the 2020 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships hosted by Ithaca College.  Matt Caccamise (125 lb), Elijah Sims (141 lb) and Richard Knapp (285 lb) won regional titles to punch their tickets to the NCAA Division III Championships set to be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 13-14.

Nine Golden Eagles earned a podium finish as Brockport collected 116.5 team points to edge nationally-ranked RIT by one point in the team standings.  The third place finish marked the highest team finish for Brockport since 2016.  Ithaca College and TCNJ tied for the regional title with team scores of 144.5.

Caccamise pinned Terry Adams from Ursinaus in the 125 pound semifinal match (1:51) to cruise into the finals against TCNJ's Daniel Ortega.  Caccamise earned a 7-5 sudden victory over Ortega in the championship bout to earn his second straight NCAA bid.  Caccamise will head to nationals with a 30-2 overall record.

Sims won a 7-1 decision in the semifinals over Scranton's Anthony Clarizio by the score of 7-1 before topping Cortland's Chandler Merwin 3-1 in the championship bout to earn his first regional title and NCAA Championship bid.  Sims will travel to Iowa for nationals with a 26-5 record.

Richard Knapp rebounded from a regular season loss to RIT's Sam Weinger with a 3-1 decision victory over his rival in the regional semifinal.  Knapp topped Scranton's Keegan Connelly by way of a thrilling 3-2 decision in the first place bout to punch his ticket to Iowa.

Brockport's Chris Eames finished fifth in the 174 pound weight class for the Golden Eagles.  He was defeated by TCNJ's Daniel Kilroy by way of a major decision (10-0) in the consolation semifinals before earning a medical forfeit victory over Ithaca's Jordan Wallace in the fifth place match.
