Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team is at home again this Saturday for a matchup against SUNY Delhi. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 pm on Bob Boozer Field.
Last Time Out: Brockport took its first loss of the season in its last outing, falling to Nazareth 20-8. Nazareth scored early and often to take an 11-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Golden Flyers continued its offense in the second, as they were up by double-digit goals at halftime. Brockport won the fourth quarter, 3-2, but was too far behind to mount a comeback. Nazareth walked away with the 12-goal victory. The Green and Gold are now 1-1 to star the year.
Hat Tricks: Two games into the season, Brockport has had two different goal scorers with a hat trick so far.
Brendan Halleran put up a hat trick in the season opening win against Alfred, finishing with four goals and one assist. In the contest versus Nazareth,
Brandon Sveda showed what he was capable of. Sveda scored three goals in the game and is now second on the team in scoring.
Assisting the Team: Owen VanWie and
Corey Choberka are currently tied for the lead on the team in the assist category. With one helper in each game, VanWie and Choberka have two assists so far on the year.
Dirty Work Fitzgerald: Aidan Fitzgerald has been all over the field with hustle and defensive effort early on in the year. Causing at least three turnovers in both games, he leads Brockport with eight caused turnovers this season. He also has a nose for the ball, scooping up a team-high 10 ground balls.
Road Trip Ahead: After beginning the 2020 campaign with three straight home games, the Golden Eagles will hit the road following the game against Delhi. Starting off with March 14
th's trip to Keuka College, they will be on the road to play four of the next five games on the schedule. The team will take on Keuka, Misericordia, Plattsburgh and Oneonta on the road during this stretch of games.
Looking at Delhi: The SUNY Delhi Broncos are currently 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the North Atlantic Conference so far this year. After dropping two in a row, the Broncos bounced back in their last game with a 21-5 win over Wells College. Mike Kelly leads Delhi with 23 points already this season on 14 goals and nine assists. He leads the team in both categories with teammate Aidan Costello matching him with 14 goals. Goalie Travis Anderson has made 61 saves so far in net, owning a saves percentage of .587.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles are on the road for their first away game of 2020 next weekend, as they travel to face Keuka College. Game is set to begin at 1 pm.
