Women's Soccer Dominates at Home Against Canton

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team dominated in its final home match of the regular season on Tuesday. Camryn Pettit registered six points on two goals and two assists, as the team defeated SUNY Canton 8-1.

The Golden Eagles improve to 6-6-2 overall on the season, putting together their highest scoring performance of the year. Pettit and teammate Kiley Longin both found the back of the net twice in the contest to lead the way.

Franchesca Polcaro had one goal and one assist, while Katie Hotaling, Sydnee Smith, and Maryalice Skutnik all scored once as well. Lara Kanbur, Elaine George, and Hailey Mitchell were all credited with one assist on the day.

Brockport was in full control of the contest just about the full 90 minutes of action, outshooting the opponent 41-2. The squad earned 16 corner kick opportunities without giving up one corner to SUNY Canton.

As the game started, it did not take long for the Green and Gold to get on the scoreboard. Franchesca Polcaro and Camryn Pettit both scored and assisted on each other's goals, putting Brockport up 2-0 before the three-minute mark. Sydnee Smith made the score 3-0 shortly after, netting her own goal in the 11th minute.

Pettit would score her second of the day just 10 minutes later to make it a four-score game. As the contest neared halftime, Maryalice Skutnik would deflect a great corner kick from Elaine George into the net, notching her first goal of the season. Katie Hotaling would cap off an incredible first half for Brockport with a deep range goal in the 40th minute.

Brockport fired off 19 shots, including 14 on target shots, in the first half without allowing SUNY Canton to get off any shots in the first half.

Kiley Longin would join in on the action in the second half, beating the opposing goalkeeper twice late in the contest. She now leads the team with six goals on the season. The visiting Roos would avoid the shutout with a goal from Autumn Kunes late in the match, but the Golden Eagle lead was too great for a comeback to take place.

Guliana Parisi got the start and the win as the starting goalkeeper for the Green and Gold on the afternoon, playing over 60 minutes in her second start of the year. Morgan Lupo allowed one goal and made one save in her season debut, logging just under 30 minutes of action.

SUNY Canton drops to 2-9-1 overall on the season, losing its fourth straight match. Goalkeeper Skylar Williams made 18 saves and allowed eight goals, as she played the full 90 minutes in net.

The Golden Eagles will be on the road for the remainder of the regular season, starting with two SUNYAC games this weekend. They travel to Plattsburgh for a 4 pm match on Friday and then take on Potsdam at 1 pm on Saturday.
