Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team hosted Fredonia on Saturday for a conference matchup. Brockport gets the win on Senior Day, sweeping the visiting Blue Devils 3-0.
The Golden Eagles are now 14-6 overall and 5-2 in the SUNYAC. They have won four straight and remain undefeated at home with a 10-0 mark on their home floor. The victory moves them up to third in the conference standings.
Meaghan Mastro and
Megan Loomis led the Green and Gold with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Mastro also had two solo blocks, while Loomis added three service aces. Mastro finished the day with a .692 hitting percentage.
Shelby Budnick led all players in the match with five service aces and 13 digs.
Kerri McHale set the table all day for her teammates, recording a match-high 28 assists.
Brockport took a solid lead in the early part of the first set, going up 9-4 to get things started. It continued gaining momentum to seize a 15-7 lead. Another big run pushed Brockport to a 25-10 win in the opening set of the match.
Fredonia got off to a strong start in the second set, earning a 6-4 advantage. The Golden Eagles closed the gap, as the game became tied at 9-9. They went on a spurt later in the set to snag a 20-13 lead going into the final stretch. Brockport took the second set to go up 2-0, winning the game 25-15.
The third and final set was all Brockport from the start. The team got up right away with an 11-3 lead, which quickly turned into a 17-4 lead over the visiting Blue Devils. The Green and Gold kept up its pace and finalized the sweep with the 25-13 win in set number three.
The Golden Eagles are on the road next weekend for their final two SUNYAC regular season contests. They take on Oneonta at 6 pm on Friday and New Paltz at 1 pm on Saturday.
