Volleyball Earns Fifth Straight Sweep at Oneonta

Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team earned a 3-0 win on the road Friday night, defeating the Oneonta Red Dragons. Brockport improves to 15-6 overall and 6-2 in the SUNYAC this season.
 
With a 3-0 sweep tonight, the Golden Eagles have now won five straight matches all without surrendering a single set. They were dominant again in this one winning in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-15.
 
Meaghan Mastro and Megan Loomis both finished with 15 kills to lead the team, as no other players in the match broke double digits. Mastro also had a match-high four blocks, while Loomis had two on the night.
 
Shelby Budnick added three service aces in the contest to go with a match-high 13 digs. Andrea Coyle was the only other participant to break double-digit digs, finishing with 10 digs to go with her seven kills and two aces.
 
Madalyn Bowen contributed with three aces from her serving opportunities and got down for eight digs defensively. Kerri McHale continues to thrive as the starting setter, leading all players with 29 assists in the match.
 
In the first set of the contest Brockport trailed Oneonta early on, 5-2. The Red Dragons remained slightly ahead with the score at 13-11 before Brockport went on its run. The Green and Gold would only give up three more points all set, marching to a 25-16 win of the set.
 
The Golden Eagles kept the momentum for the start of set number two, taking a quick 10-4 lead. They would lose the advantage after Oneonta fought back to go up 13-11. However, Brockport had an answer to earn the second match point, 25-19.
 
Brockport did not allow Oneonta to hold the lead once in the third and final set. The Red Dragons did tie the score up at 12-12 at one point, but it didn't last long. The Green and Gold would cruise through the finish line winning the se 25-15 to complete the sweep.
 
The Golden Eagles are on the road again Saturday for their final SUNYAC contest of the regular season. They head over to take on New Paltz at 1 pm.
