Golden Eagles Lose in Overtime Against Geneseo

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team hosted Geneseo on Saturday for a SUNYAC conference contest. The match went to overtime, where the visiting Knights scored in the opening minute of OT to take a 1-0 win over Brockport.

The Golden Eagles are now 4-4-2 overall and move to 1-1-1 in SUNYAC play after the loss. Geneseo remains at the top of the conference standings at 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the SUNYAC.

The home team played a strong first half, keeping the ball in the attacking end for the majority of the first 45 minutes. Brockport outshot its opponent 6-3 in the first, but did not find the back of the net. Both goalkeepers made nice plays to keep the score locked at 0-0 entering halftime.

In the second half, Geneseo would turn the tide and take control with consistent pressure on the offensive end. The Knights outshot Brockport 10-3 in the second. Making just her second career start in net, Victoria Cangialosi came up with a couple big stops to tally three total saves.

After 90 minutes the match remained scoreless at 0-0, sending the conference rivals into overtime. Just 48 seconds into the first overtime period, Nicole Bell scored the game-winner off of a Geneseo corner kick. Hannah Sullivan was credited with the assist, playing the ball in on the corner.

Kiley Longin had multiple looks in the attacking zone, placing four of her five shots on target. Sydnee Smith and Franchesca Polcaro both also placed on shot on goal. Victoria Cangialosi made three saves in just over 70 minutes of action, while Kayla Usborne came into the game late to make four saves.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on on Tuesday, October 5th when they travel to face Susquehanna University. This non-conference match is set to begin at 4 pm
