Oswego, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team bounced back with a 3-0 sweep of Oswego on the road Saturday. The squad gets its first conference win of the year, improving to 10-5 overall and 1-2 in the SUNYAC.
Andrea Coyle led the way with 18 kills, the most of any player in the match. Coye also had four digs and one block assist, while earning a hitting percentage of .483.
Meaghan Mastro finished with 11 kills on a .579 hitting percentage to go with one solo and one block assist.
Jordan Thompson and
Kerri McHale both came away with four service aces in the contest, while
Shelby Budnick had three of her own. McHale also led the Green and Gold with 17 assists.
Ashley Allen broke double digits from the setter spot as well, tallying 11 assists.
Defensively
Shelby Budnick paced the Golden Eagles with 16 digs, while
Jordan Thompson and
Kerri McHale combined for 11 digs.
Megan Muehlbauer and
Julia Schlundt both got up for one block assist in the victory as well.
Brockport was consistently in control of the match through all three sets of its sweep over the Oswego Lakers. The team earned three straight points by winning sets by scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-15. The win snapped a three-match losing skid for the Green and Gold.
The Golden Eagles got off to a hot start in the first set, scoring the first seven points of the game. They kept the momentum going, eventually holding a 19-6 edge over Oswego.

Set number two got off to a very similar start, as Brockport fired off a big run to take a 10-2 lead. The Lakers would make a run of their own to make it a 12-11 score, keeping it close. Another surge by the Green and Gold saw the squad go up 17-11, which set up a run to finish the set with another point to go up 2-0.
Both teams traded points for the early part of the third set, with Brockport holding a slim 6-5 lead. Then the team turned it up a notch, soaring forward to snag a convincing 17-8 advantage in search of a sweep of Oswego. Trading points through the finish line, Brockport did not allow the Lakers to close the gap to complete the sweep.
The Golden Eagles take a quick step outside of conference play for their next outing, as they travel to take on St. John Fisher. The match is scheduled for a 7 pm start on Tuesday, October 5
th.
