In the opening set of the match, RIT got off to a strong start to snag a 13-6 advantage. The visiting team kept its lead, but Brockport would creep back into the game to make it a 21-19 score. The Tigers would fend off the Green and Gold down the stretch, as they took the first set 25-23.
With the score reading 11-11 halfway through set number two, the teams headed towards a second close game. A quick burst from Brockport would give the squad a slim lead at 18-14. That was all the team needed as the Green and Gold kept its momentum through the finish line of the second set to win, 25-20, and tie the match up at 1-1.
It was all Brockport early on in the third set of the night, as the home team jumped out to a 13-7 lead over RIT. This lead quickly continued to grow, giving Brockport a 20-10 stranglehold on the set. Although the visiting Tigers closed the gap, it was not enough to stop the Golden Eagles from winning 25-18 and going up 2-1 in the match.
The fourth and final set was a back and forth affair with each team playing well. The score was tied on six different occasions through the beginning parts of the game. Tied at 10-10, Brockport would go on a spurt that was sparked by strong serving from
Shelby Budnick to take a 15-10 lead. The Green and Gold never gave up that lead again, finishing strong for the 25-21 win to secure the match victory.
The Golden Eagles improved to 16-7 overall and are 6-3 in conference play after the win. They will now close out the regular season this Saturday at the Ithaca Tri-Match. Brockport will face Ithaca at 11 am and NYU at 1:30 pm.
