Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Late Rally Falls Short as Rochester Tops Brockport

The SUNY Brockport field hockey team lost to visiting University of Rochester 4-1 in a hard-fought contest on Tuesday night.  Brockport's Katelynn Mello netted her sixth goal of the season, and she currently ranks second on the team with 15 total points.  The Golden Eagle's lone goal was assisted by Katie Ziemba and Emily Hall. Ziemba leads the team with 22 total points this season.

Bport (5-6, 0-2 SUNYAC) hopes to snap a two-game slide on Friday when the Golden Eagles travel to Oneonta to resume SUNYAC Conference play.  Rochester improved to 8-3 on the season.

Mello's goal helped her reach 50 points for her career as she now has 17 goals and 16 assists in 46 career games played in the green and gold. Her 50 career points are tied for seventh on the College's all-time list.

Ziemba continues to add to her stellar career as a Golden Eagle and she now has 65 career points on 25 goals and 15 assists.  Her 65 points rank fourth all-time and she needs just one more to tie Kelly-Ann Henry '11 for third on the program's all-time list.

UofR jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 6:15 of the contest behind goals from Julia McDonough and Amanda Strenk.  Strenk finished her stellar night with a hat-trick as she went on to score the Yellowjackets final two goals of the contest at the 18-minute mark of the first half and the 32:32 marker of the second half.

McDonough finished the night with three points, while Zoe Conomikes and Mara Heppard also added assists for the Yellowjackets.

Mello helped the Golden Eagles threaten with a goal in the 36th minute, but the Yellowjackets kept the pressure on for the remainder of the contest and managed to secure a three goal victory.

Rochester outshot the Golden Eagles 19-7 on the evening and earned a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.  Four goalies saw action between the two teams.  Abigail Walrond picked up her eighth win of the season she stopped all four shots she faced in the first half of play.  Brockport's Emma Acevedo made four saves in 40 minutes of work for the Golden Eagles.  Freshman Ella Buchanan stopped two shots for Bport in just her second appearance in the cage since early September.
