Volleyball Sweeps Buffalo St. in Round One, Advances to Semifinals to Play Geneseo

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team swept Buffalo State, 3-0, in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament. Brockport officially advances to the SUNYAC Semifinals to continue defending its 2019 SUNYAC title.

The Golden Eagles continue an incredible run on their home floor, as they are now 12-0 this season at home. Their last home loss came on September 14th, 2019 as the team has now won 20 straight matches playing in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

Andrea Coyle and Myah Frostclapp both recorded hitting percentages above the .500 mark, leading the team with ten and seven kills respectively. Frostclapp also got up for one solo and one block assist defensively.

Meaghan Mastro totaled six blocks with three solo and three block assists. Brockport's libero, Shelby Budnick racked up a match-high ten digs and tied her season-high of six service aces. Kerri McHale shined in her setter position, recording a match-high 25 assists.

As a team the Golden Eagles only committed seven attacking errors, while the Bengals had 22 errors. They also had six more aces and eight more blocks than the visiting team from Buffalo State.

Brockport jumped on its opponent right at the beginning of the first set, going up 7-1. After Buffalo State fought to close the gap, Brockport eventually extended its lead to 18-10. The squad scored five unanswered points down the stretch to take the first set, 25-12.

Although the visiting Bengals didn't give up a big lead early on, it did not take long for the Green and Gold to surge ahead. Two big runs allowed Brockport to seize a controlling 19-7 lead in the second set. Buffalo State never got anything going, which allowed the home team to secure the second point by a score of 25-11.

Up 2-0 on the night, Brockport looked to advance with a third set win while Buffalo State fought for its postseason life. The early goings of the game saw the Bengals lead, 7-6, after a quick spurt. The Golden Eagles would battle to take a 16-14 advantage and recaptured the momentum for a game-clinching final push. They allowed just two more points to Buffalo State, scoring seven in a row at one point to complete the sweep with a 25-16 win in set three.

The reigning 2019 SUNYAC Champions will return to the SUNYAC Semifinals once again, where they will play Geneseo in a rematch of the 2019 SUNYAC Finals.

The semifinal round will be held at Cortland, as the teams will face-off for a chance to meet up with the winner of the Cortland/New Paltz matchup in the finals.

#3 Brockport faces off against #2 Geneseo on Friday, November 5th at 4 pm.
