Hamburg, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team jumped to 5-1 to start the season after defeating Hilbert College, 74-43, on the road. Senior
Chelsea Henry notched the first double-double of her career, finishing with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Chelsea Henry recorded a career-high in rebounds, as she led Brockport on the glass and in scoring.
Erin Radack matched Henry's scoring output, pouring in a season-high 15 points. Both scorers were efficient, shooting a combined 12-for-20 from the field and 4-for-6 from downtown.
The Golden Eagles started and ended the game extremely well in their 31-point victory, the largest margin of the season. In the first and fourth quarters combined, they outscored the Hawks, 43-7. Brockport scored at least 20 points in every quarter but the third in the contest.
Bench scoring and rebounding proved to make a huge difference in the game. Reserves for the Green and Gold outscored the Hilbert subs 26-8 on the night. It was all Brockport on the glass in this one, as the team won the rebounding battle 47-22.
Brockport never allowed Hilbert to have the lead the entire game, going up early right from the tip.
Chelsea Henry got going early with seven points in the first to help push the squad out to a 17-2 lead just five minutes into the game. The Green and Gold held that 15-point advantage going into the second. Another strong showing in the second period allowed the squad to enter halftime with a 41-23 lead.
Hilbert battled in the third quarter, as the teams both scored 11 points in the period. However, Brockport maintained its large lead and would build on that in the fourth. The Golden Eagles allowed just three points in the final period thanks to a strong effort on defense and on the glass. They would cruise through with their highest scoring quarter of the game to secure the win on the road.
The Golden Eagles are back on their home court early next week for their first taste of SUNYAC play. They host Fredonia on Tuesday, November 30
th for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
