Brockport Tops Fredonia in SUNYAC Opener

Brockport, NY - The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team led for the majority of the contest to take a 54-46 victory over visiting Fredonia in the SUNYAC Conference opener on Tuesday night. The Golden Eagles handed the Blue Devils their second loss of the season and improved to 6-1 on the year for the first time since 2007. 

Senior Chelsea Henry netted 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Erin Radack provided a huge spark with her 3-point shooting to score 13 points.  Kylee Rosbrook scored nine of her 12 points in the first half, while Erin Nolan grabbed 12 rebounds and scored six points. 

The Golden Eagles trailed 12-8 in the first quarter before going on a 17-5 run over the course of the next 8:57 to take a 25-17 lead with 3:36 remaining in the first half. Rosbrook and Henry combined for 15 of Brockport's 17 points in the stretch as the team held the Blue Devils to just 2-of-11 shooting from the floord during the run.  Brockport managed to secure a 29-24 lead at the half.

It was a quiet third quarter before the Golden Eagles broke loose in the final ten minutes of action.  Brockport used a 16-5 run in a span of 4:14 in the fourth to take the largest lead of the contest, 52-38, with 4:24 remaining.  Erin Radack scored all thirteen of her points in the four minute stretch, including three consecutive shots from long range, much to the delight of the Brockport faithful. 

Fredonia closed out the fourth quarter on an 8-2 run, but it proved to be too late to mount a comeback. The Green and Gold improved to 3-1 at home on the season and has put together back-to-back wins.

The Golden Eagles held the lead for 34:54 of the contest (87.2%). 26 of Brockport's 54 points came in the paint. The squad caused 22 turnovers and scored 13 second chance points.

Three Blue Devils scored in double digits including Katie Pitcher (13), Renee Park (12), and Mary Culeton (10). 

The Golden Eagles return to the hardwood on Friday when they travel to Cortland for a showdown with the Red Dragons at 5:30 p.m. Brockport will wrap up the weekend with a home game on Saturday against Oswego at 2 p.m.
