Men's Basketball Welcomes Fredonia to Open Up Conference Play

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is at home Tuesday night for its first taste of SUNYAC play this season. The team hosts Fredonia for a 7:30 pm tip-off.

Last Time Out: The Green and Gold came out and dominated Brooklyn College in the last game, earning an 84-50 win on the road. The win made it three straight for the squad, improving the record to 3-1 on the season. Brockport's bench outscored the Brooklyn reserves, 37-3, and the team shot 54.2% while holding the opponent to 29.5% shooting.

Player of the Week: Jahidi Wallace was named the PrestoSports Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. Wallace dominated in Brockport's win on the road against Brooklyn College this past week. The junior posted his first double-double of the year with season-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds. He was efficient offensively, shooting 8-for-13 from the field and 5-for-6 at the foul line. Wallace also finished with a career-high of three blocked shots defensively in the contest. Jahidi is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He has shot a healthy 52.8% from the floor and is converting on 81.5% of his free throw attempts.

Home Sweet Home: The Golden Eagles continue their incredible streak playing in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. At 1-0 this season and 15-0 last season at home, the squad remains unbeaten at The Vlog since February 16th, 2019. They have won 18 games in a row on the home court and look to extend that streak against Fredonia on Tuesday night.

Heating Up: Fresham Mekhi Beckett has found his footing within the framework of the Green and Gold offense over the last two games. After scoring just eight points in the first two contests, Beckett is combined for 36 points in the last two games. He scored his collegiate career-high 19 points against Hobart and then poured in 17 more points in the win over Brooklyn. Mekhi has caused problems from beyond the 3-point arc, shooting 9-for-16 at 56.3% from deep this season.

Starting to Roll: Brockport entered the season with a 19-game win streak, which is tied for the most consecutive wins in program history. The streak was ended by Alfred when the team lost, 82-72, in the season opener back on November 6th. Since then the squad has looked better each game and has now begun another winning streak. Brockport has now won three straight after defeating Morrisville by eight, Hobart by 24, and Brooklyn by 34. The team has gathered some momentum heading into the start of SUNYAC play.

Conference Play: Fredonia coming to town marks the beginning of conference play for the Green and Gold. Head Coach Greg Dunne led the team to a 17-1 mark in the SUNYAC during the 2019-20 season, the programs best conference record since Dunne took over in 2007. Brockport has won 17 consecutive games against SUNYAC opponents heading into conference play this year.

Looking at Fredonia: The Fredonia Blue Devils currently own a 0-6 record so far this season, as they are still looking for their first win. They most recently lost a close matchup against RIT, 77-71. Tuesday night's matchup will also be the start of SUNYAC play for Fredonia, looking to improve upon last season's 4-14 mark in the conference. #5 Dydy Bryan leads the way for the Blue Devils, averaging team-highs of 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. #30 Jackson Brown is the second leading scorer with a per game tally of 11.5 points a night. As a team Fredonia is shooting 38.3% from the field, 23.9% from downtown, and 68.9% at the free throw line.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles continue conference play this weekend with a pair of contests. They take on Cortland at 7:30 pm on Friday away from home, before returning to The Vlog for a 4 pm tip-off against Oswego.
