Cortland, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team fell to the Cortland Red Dragons on the road Friday night, 82-52. Brockport's record moves to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Kylee Rosbrook had her best outing of the season so far, shooting 7-for-11 from the field to post a season-high 17 points. She led the Green and Gold in scoring as the team's only double-digit scorer for the game.
Rosbrook would score 10 of her game-high 17 points in the first half, as the Golden Eagles held the edge early on. After holding a 15-10 lead after the first quarter, they would enter halftime with a 29-27 lead. The team shot 52% from the floor while holding Cortland to just 37.5% shooting in the opening half of play.
However, it was a tale of two halves and the hosting Red Dragons would control the game after the break. Cortland's offense went 10-for-18 from beyond the arc in the second half to outscore Brockport 55-23 in the third and fourth quarters. The home team continued to play better as the game went on, marching to a decisive 82-52 win.
The Golden Eagles outrebounded their opponent, 38-34, but turnovers and long-range shooting proved to be the difference makers. Cortland shot 12-for-28 from deep in the contest, while Brockport was only 4-for-20 from distance. The Red Dragons also won the turnover battle, committing just 10 turnovers compared to Brockport's 22.
Cortland improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC after the win, giving the team four straight victories now. The Red Dragons will take on Fredonia on Saturday at 2 pm.
These two teams will meet once more in the regular season this year, with Brockport getting the benefit of home court advantage. Cortland comes to town for the rematch on January 25
th, 2022.
The Golden Eagles now turn their attention to Saturday afternoon's contest against Oswego for yet another SUNYAC battle. They will host the Lakers for a 2 pm tip-off at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
