Alfred, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team opened the season with a 72-82 loss on the road at Alfred. The loss snapped Brockport's 19-game win streak that carried over from the 2019 season, which is tied for the most consecutive wins in program history.
2019's leading rebounder
Devante Hagins came up just shy of a double-double to start his senior season. Hagins did a little of everything, posting 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block off the bench.
Jahidi Wallace led the team with 16 points on the night, shooting 60% from the field.
David Grady III scored 13 in his first game wearing the Green and Gold and swatted away three shots defensively.
In just nine minutes off the bench
Hakeem Dobbins scored nine points in his debut for the Golden Eagles.
Antonio Alvarez tallied seven points and six boards in the contest before fouling out late in the second half.
Brockport took an early 11-5 lead to start the first game of the 2021-22 season. The team's traded baskets before Alfred knotted the score up at 21-21 with less than 10 minutes remaining until halftime. The Saxons worked to take a 32-30 advantage by the mid-game break, as their leading scorer Cole Eells scored 11 of his game-high 20 in the first half.

Antonio Alvarez combined for 16 points in the opening half of play to lead the Green and Gold. Brockport outrebounded Alfred in the first half, 25-20, but went 0-for-7 from downtown compared to 5-for-16 shooting from deep by Alfred.
The Saxons attempted to stretch the narrow lead as the second half began, eventually earning an eight-point lead at 44-36 with 13:53 on the clock. The Golden Eagles stayed within striking range, as the score read 51-48 with just over eight minutes left in regulation. A pair of shots from beyond the 3-point arc sparked a spurt for Alfred which gave the home team a double-digit lead for the first time all night.
The lead would remain with Alfred through the finish line as Brockport was unable to close the gap down the stretch. Brockport suffered the 82-72 loss on the road to start the year 0-1, while Alfred begins the year at 1-0.
The Golden Eagles look to regroup for its home opener on Tuesday, November 9
th. They will host Morrisville State College at 6:30 pm in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
