Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Golden Eagles Hold Off Morrisville for 18th Straight Win at Home

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team bounced back with a win at home on Tuesday, defeating Morrisville State 69-61. Brockport improves to 1-1 on the season as the program has now won 18 in a row on its home court.

Jahidi Wallace led the team with 15 points and nine rebounds, coming up just short of the double-double. Wallace shot 9-for-11 at the foul line in the game. David Grady III swatted four shots on the defensive end and put up 12 points.

Antonio Alvarez threw down a pair of dunks on his way to an 11-point, five rebound performance. In just 11 minutes off the bench, Monte Johnson had his first double-digit scoring night in a Brockport uniform with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting.

Senior Brandon Kennedy-Gay contributed eight points and five boards. Classmate Devante Hagins posted a line of four points, six boards, five assists, three steals, and one block.

The Golden Eagles were ahead just about the entire first half, but the visiting Mustangs kept it close. An old school 3-point play by Monte Johnson gave the squad its largest lead of the half at 31-23 with less than two minutes remaining until halftime. However, Morrisville would cut the lead to 31-27 going into the break.

There were several lead changes and tied scores in the first 10 minutes of the second half of play. Morrisville would get a clutch 3-point basket with less than seven minutes left to cut Brockport's lead to just three points. Free throws became crucial to close out the contest. Despite the team's overall struggle at the charity stripe, the Green and Gold did just enough to pull away for the 69-61 victory.

The Golden Eagles worked to get easy opportunities at the basket all night. They had 34 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers, and 16 fast break points. They continue to draw contact and get to the foul line consistently, attempting 34 free throws on the day.

The Mustangs were led by Tron Smith's game-high 22 points. They had three players foul out late in the contest. The team starts the season off 0-1 overall after the loss.

The Golden Eagles are back on the road Tuesday, November 16th. They travel to take on Hobart College for a 7 pm start.
