2021-2022 Indoor Track & Field Season Preview

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport track & field program begins its indoor campaign on Saturday, December 11th as the Golden Eagles head to the 2021Utica Holiday Classic at Utica College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 AM.

Meet The Staff:
Returning to SUNY Brockport for his 18th season as a part of the Golden Eagles track and Field Program, Head Coach Ed Jaskulski joined the staff as an assistant coach after graduating from Brockport in 2003. In 2009, Jaskulski was promoted to interim head coach for the Outdoor Track & Field squads. He then took over as the Director of Cross Country/Track & Field in 2013. Now the Head Coach of Brockport Track & Field. he works closely with the throwers while continuing to propel the program forward as a whole.
 
During his coaching tenure, Jaskulski has coached over 60 NCAA participants, over 30 All-Americans, over 60 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) champions, over 20 state champions, and has had four National Champions. Since taking the reigns as leader of the program, Jaskulski has had more than 100 1st Team All-SUNYAC athletes and 100 more 2nd and 3rd Team selections combined. Jaskulski is joined by a strong group of assistants including Head Cross Country Coach John Davis, who will work with the distance program during track & field. Jack Palmeri returns to the coaching staff as he'll help with the team's jumpers. New to the coaching staff this season and rounding out the squad are Aubrey Sheffield (sprints/hurdles) & Alex Curran (Pole Vault).
 
Jump Squad: Returning this season taking part in the Long and Triple Jump event is Defending 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Long Jump National Champion Egypt Page as he won the championships with a jump of 7.42m. he currently holds the record for the indoor Long Jump at Brockport with a personal best of 7.49m. D'Andre Hunter returns to the program and will be one of the high jumpers on the men's squad to keep an eye on. Introducing to the program and someone to watch will be freshman Derek Edick as he will look to make a name for himself in the jumps category.
 
On the women's side, Chanyce Powell will return for a fifth season. As the programs indoor record holder in the long jump with 5.71m and second place in the program in the triple jump with 11.82m, Powell will look to keep pace and aim to qualify for nationals. Other top mentions in the women's jumps category are that of Halle King and Mia Montgomery. Montgomery currently sits in seventh place overall in the program with 11.39m. King currently sits in third all-time in the long jump with 5.53m and in seventh all-time in the high jump with a top clearance of 1.62m. Sarah Killip is another woman to keep an eye on this season as in the 2021 outdoor season she was the team's top high jumper with a height of 1.60m with King right behind her that season with a top height of 1.59m.
 
Throwers: Coming back to the program this season was the team's 2019 men's indoor weight throw leader Matt Faulise who hit a mark of 17.32m that season to sit him in the programs record book as the fifth farthest distance in the weight throw. Faulise's personal best in the shotput came that same indoor season when he threw for 15.20m. Art Jordan returns for the Golden Eagles throwers as well. At Brockport's last indoor open meet in 2019, the now senior managed to throw his best weight throw with 13.24m. last outdoor season he threw his best shotput of his career with 15.79m. Elijah Washington comes back for his fifth year as broke a personal best in the shotput at 14.09m in 2021 and a personal best in the weight throw at 14.68m in the 2019-2020 indoor season. Newcomer Connor Ferris will be one of the teams incoming athletes to keep watch of as he progresses through his collegiate track and field career.
 
As NCAA qualifiers in the 2021 outdoor season, Sarah Crockett and Alayna Fredenburgh will return as some of the most experienced women on the team. Crockett, a senior, managed to qualify for the 2021 NCAA Championships in shotput where she finished as the 12th highest ranked throw in all of division III. Last indoor season, she managed to throw a personal best and program record second best with 13.65m. her personal best shotput came last outdoor season with a 13.75m. Alayna Fredenburg is the programs third longest throw in the weight throw hitting 16.41m back in 2019-2020. Entering their first indoor seasons, sophomore Emma Kinicutt and freshman Laine Porter will be two women to watch this indoor season.
 
 
 
Pole Vault: Returning sophomore Tess Eichner will be one of the top women to watch in the vaults. At the 2021 SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships she hit a personal best of 2.90m which captured her fourth place on the podium. Incomer Mya Henry will be joining the programs vaulters and someone to keep an eye on this season along with Hunter Czajkowski who is making the transition from Brockport's gymnastics program to track and field this season.
 
For Men's vaulters, Emmett Vanderstouw will be one of the programs top returners as the vaulters. During the 2021 outdoor season he was the team's top vaulter tying for first place with a mark of 3.80m. on the watch list will be incomer Drew Miller.
 
Multi's: returning this year for the multi events for the women's pentathlon is senior Madison Baker. Competing for the first time as a multi-athlete in track & field during her sophomore year in 2020, Baker managed to claim 12th place in the entire SUNYAC conference for the women's pentathlon. Michelle Rissoti will be an incoming multi competitor alongside Baker as she will cross-over from being on the SUNY Brockport Volleyball team and become a dual-sport athlete at Brockport with her joining the track and field program.
 
For the men's heptathlon, Carson Swierski will come back to the program this year as a junior. Two years ago, he managed to claim second place in the men's shot put and third place in the high jump decathlon events at the Brockport Multi & Invitational outdoor meet in April 2021. Blaze McKinney will also be joining Swarski for the men's team's multi events this season as he's competed in everything from the 60m dash to the javelin throw during the outdoor season.
 
Sprints: For the men's sprinters rejoining the program, Olivier Kothor returns as the senior looks to pick up where he left off last outdoor season finishing in third place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.99s. his all-time best indoor time came when he recorded a time of 6.91 seconds where he claimed first place at the SUNYAC Championships in 2020 and second place in the SUNYAC in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.27 seconds. Devin Kipp also rejoins the sprinters recording his fastest times in the 60m dash with 7.24s. a couple of incoming sprinters to watch in the men's program this year will be Jordan Cancel and Caleb Carr.
 
For the Women's sprinters, Sarah Levin, Brianna Lawless, Marisa Wise and Rea Winter all return as some of the team's top sprinters. Levine finished her 2021 outdoor season by placing in 5th place at the AARTFC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a personal best in the 100m dash with a time of 12.58 seconds. Lawless returns as the team's top 200m and 400m sprinter where she recorded a personal best time of 59.41 seconds in the 400m to claim third place at the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Hurdles: Kelsey Neldrett and Marisa Wise come back to the program as a pair of the top hurdlers for the women's program. Last May at the Brockport Friday Night Invite, Neldrett recorded a personal best of 16.17 seconds in the 100H to give her a second place finish in the meet. Wise will come into the program this season as a freshman and will be an athlete to keep an eye on in sprints and hurdles.
 
Blake James comes back to the program where he recorded a time of 16.59s in the 110H to claim first place at the Brockport Multi & Invitational in 2021 during the outdoor season.
 
Distance Runners: For the men's team, NCAA Men's Cross Country National Qualifier, Ethan Carey will look to make the same statement during this year's indoor season as he did during the XC season. During the last cross country season, Carey managed to qualify for the Indoor championships where he finished in 11th place in the conference. Joining Carey for men's distance runners to keep an eye on are Nick Markel, Jonathan Zavala, Sean Killip and Jared Smith.
 
For the women's program, Kerry Flower just like Ethan Carey also qualified for the 2021 Cross Country National Championships this past fall and will look to qualify for nationals again this winter. A few other women rejoining the distance runners are Veronica Dailey, Meridith Masker, Lucia Sibley and Kaylee Haynes.
 
After winter break, the Green and Gold will resume competition on January 14th when the team travels to Ithaca, NY to compete in a tri-meet with Ithaca College and Oneonta.
